Bar soap recommendations

Biscuitsandteaplease · 25/01/2020 12:53

I'm looking to reduce single use plastic in our house and so am interested to try bar soaps in place of shower gels that we seem to tear through!

I have fairly dry skin and keratosis pilaris on my arms and do like a nicely fragranced soap - any recommendations of where to start?

I love SoapDaze. Made in UK, free of palm oil and tend to have coconut oil and shea butter as their base so very moisturising for skin. Scented ones are all natural scents too. They're not the cheapest but last a while and keep my dermatitis under control so I would be happy to pay double just for that!

I'm sure there are lots of others made by small businesses like her but I tried this one first, fell in love with it and now just stock up every time there are offers going.

Soaps for little suds (another small business, you can find it on FB). Just love their shampoo bars and they do loads of great imaginative gifts (I like the look of SoapDaze too - might give them a go!)

Lush have lovely package free soap, the honey one smells gorgeous!

Biscuitsandteaplease · 25/01/2020 13:59

Soapdaze look gorgeous so I'll definitely be trying one of those and will also check out Lush, I love honey!

Thank you

The Dartmoor Soap Company - really nice natural cold pressed soaps. If you live close by they also run soap making workshops which are great (you make two different soaps which equate to about 12 bars).

HollysBush · 25/01/2020 14:28

Soho soap company does fab shampoo bars.

fedup21 · 25/01/2020 14:29

Nesti Dante soaps are lovely.

charlesthekudu · 25/01/2020 15:13

Nesti Dante!!

BlackSwan · 25/01/2020 15:55

I'm a nesti dante convert from reading these pages. They're beautiful.

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2020 18:12

Yes, Nesti Dante. Smells divine.

Biscuitsandteaplease · 25/01/2020 19:08

Ooh I have heard of Nesti Dante, which scents are good?

@Biscuitsandteaplease, impossible to say as they have so many. Beware of falling into the trap! Grin I am a bar soap collector and my issue with ND is the bars are huge and long lasting so you may be waiting months before you can try another scent! I'm too impatient!

PineappleDanish · 26/01/2020 08:58

I love bar soap! There are literally hundreds of small soap producers up and down the country, go to your local farmers' market and there will almost definitely be one there.

Support local businesses as well as switching to bar soap - double the impact.

SprinkleOfInsanity · 26/01/2020 09:02

I love the soaps from FatFace, they smell divine and last for ages. They also don't aggravate my sensitive skin.

AnnaMagnani · 26/01/2020 09:05

Find a local soap producer - there are so many!

I like All Natural Soap Co but a big part of the reason I like it is they are quite near me.

Find a small producer that is palm oil free and away you go.

Iamthewombat · 26/01/2020 09:07

Yes, Nesti Dante and Castelbel.

Both in abundant supply, with lovely scents, at TK Maxx.

BikeRunSki · 26/01/2020 09:25

Faith in Nature soaps are my favourite, but use polythene packaging.
I also really like Friendly soap, as it’s localish and uses cardboard packaging.
Beware palm oil (under one of its many, many names) in bar soap.

just5morepeas · 26/01/2020 09:30

I think any soap is better than shower gell for your skin, as it rinses away cleanly and leaves no residue on your skin like most shower gells do.

OverthinkingThis · 26/01/2020 09:32

I got a pack of 6 different Nesti Dante ones off Amazon - they're all nice but my favourite is called 'golden countryside'. They manage to be floral without being old ladyish

Dove bar. It’s not chemically a soap so doesn’t dry your skin. Has a special patented technology. Is perfect for dry skin.
