Best shampoo bar? Not Lush

Trying to cut down on plastic, as we all are, and struggling with shampoo. We use bar soap rather than shower gel and I'd like to find a bar shampoo. I don't like Lush (the products, the prices, the smell, the politics) so somewhere else - ideally not £££. Any recommendations?

I haven’t used it yet (we usually use Lush) but I got one in Sainsbury’s for a couple of pounds, which isn’t too much to pay to try it out? I think

Posted too soon, I think they have just started stocking them, first time I’ve seen them anyway.

I have tried Friendly Soap and Funky Soap, I find them handy for taking on holiday and was impressed with both. I found them a bit longer lasting than Lush with none of the nasty ingredients. The main ingredient in Lush soap bars is SLS which turns my hair to straw.

Both are online but I think you can buy from Amazon too

I like the Friendly Soap shampoo bars. Also their shaving bars are good, if you would use them.

I am not sure if you can get Ethique shampoo bars in the UK, but they’re fabulous!!!

justilou1 · 25/01/2020 10:07

Sorry - posted too soon! They last forever and don’t irritate my stupidly sensitive scalp!!!

GoulashSoup · 25/01/2020 10:25

Want to add that if you are using SLS free experiment with a citric acid or apple cider vinegar rinse, it makes your hair softer and shinier.

I like soap and soul. They are a small brand basic in the West Country and they do lovely flavours/smells. Cheaper than lush and don’t turn my hair to straw either

YorkieTheRabbit · 25/01/2020 10:52

I’ve used the Friendly shampoo bar which was horrible on my coloured hair. It was straw like and didn’t feel clean, never had that problem with Lush bars. I got a Shine On bar from amazon and that’s really nice.

Sounds like there are more options than I thought! Thank you ladies

I also like Earthkind at Holland and Barrett

If you're willing to spend a bit more, the soapnuts bars are lovely, I used them when my hair was longer & it always felt squeaky clean (we do have soft water though). If you go for a soapnuts based product, beware as they sting like a bastard if you get it in your eyes.

AwdBovril · 25/01/2020 23:35

I used to buy them from here if I couldn't find them in a shop, they're not especially easy to find on the high street TBH.

Beauty kubes are amazing
