I know I'm late to the party but isn't CeraVe brilliant?

Seriously , I can't believe how good it is. I've been using it for about 8 weeks and it's transformed my skin.

I read a post of here about how it's got ceramides in it and that's why it's so good ( will have to Google what that are!)

My rosacea has practically gone,no dryness or flakiness any more ,it's a bloody miracleSmile

It's not much different to the old cleanse tone moisturise.

I don't bother with the double cleansing thing myself.

In the morning I do cleanse, tone, moisturise, SPF. At night I do cleanse, tone, serum (I vary what it is), moisturise.

So it's 4 steps instead of 3.

teta · 23/01/2020 12:26

I've been using Cerave for a while. I do think the products are good basics but they're definitely not miracle workers. As long as my Rosacea sensitive prone skin doesn't react to them ( unlike the french pharmacy ranges) I will carry on using the products. I do particularly love the Spf. Cream but hate the effect on my eyes. Also my DD found the cream in a tub to be the very best thing for her very dry skin on Roaccutane.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/01/2020 16:34

My skin is so sensitive I can't wear SPF at all, I have to wear a wide brimmed hat and stay in the shade.

I’m using the lotion on my face. Can’t use the there AM or Day Cream.
And the PM has only one ingredient different to the lotion.
Can’t say it’s amazing for my face but I’m going through the menopause and have rosacea.
The hydrating face wash stings and the Smoothing one didn’t.
But found it started to irritate my skin after a bit.
But even water is irritating me at the moment.
My skin is soo sore I don’t know what to do .

RiojaHaze · 23/01/2020 18:09

@BallacheForLife I'm having the same issues as you. Tried loads of stuff and nothing works. My Dr has just prescribed me Lymecycline which she said takes 3 months to work as it gets the skin as it's starting to develop but she's pretty positive that it will clear it up.

MaxAmount · 23/01/2020 18:09

I love this stuff, have kicked Aveeno to the kerb, it just wasn't enough anymore. I use the moisturising cream - it's heavy duty - I have eczema and it really does keep my patches soft all day without the need for reapplications, it doesn't make my skin go raised and spongy and it doesn't irritate - it's a miracle worker for that alone.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 25/01/2020 10:06

@MaxAmount, really? Is it better than the Aveeno Cream with Colloidal Oats? The really thick cream?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/01/2020 12:09

Streets ahead of Aveeno, so much better.

My eye cream has just arrived,I'll use it tonight and repost back tomorrow.

@BallacheForLife

How bad is your acne? Have you considered Roaccutane? I don't think skincare helps unless mild cases.

MaxAmount · 25/01/2020 17:07

@TheLadyAnneNeville Aveeno just couldn't cut it anymore, my skin felt more inflamed with it - but I was happy with it for 20 years and if you are there's no need to change, I might go back to it when my skin gets better - I have loads of tubes leftover.

Tasharuby1 · 25/01/2020 17:43

There’s something in the Cerave hydrating face wash that really irritates my skin. Such a shame as I’m desperate for a hydrating unfragrance face wash suitable for Seborrhoeic Dermatitis and rosacea.
I’ve looked int balms but they all seem really difficult to wash off.
Would love to make my own but don’t know where to start.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 25/01/2020 17:51

@MaxAmount. Thanks. I’ve used the Aveeno Lotion which wasn’t good. But I find the Colloidal Oats one to be really skin plumping. Will stick with it for now.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/01/2020 18:26

Tasharuby1

Have you tried TBS chammomile balm? Comes off easily with a washcloth and tepid water. I used it before switching to the CeraVe one.

Apileofballyhoo · 25/01/2020 18:33

Tasharuby - DHC Deep
Cleansing Oil rinses off with water. Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser really is extremely gentle!

Apileofballyhoo · 25/01/2020 18:34

La Roche posay do something possibly called Caring Face Wash but I've not tried it.

Tasharuby1 · 25/01/2020 19:52

I’ve tried the La Roche posay, Avene Extremely Gentle.
I’ve gone and bought some of the TBS Camomile butter.
I’ve only used it for taking makeup off. But my skin was a bit stingy.
I’ve not tried the DHC oil as was not sure is it’s ok for rosacea or Seborrhoeic Dermatitis.
I’m post menopause and my skin has gone to pot.

Apileofballyhoo · 25/01/2020 19:58

There's also The Ordinary squalane cleanser. Does the Avene sting you? Deciem do several cleansers in their upmarket ranges - sugar based. Cleansing ester I think? Super saccaride or something like that? Simple also do a cleansing oil.

Paula's choice also do barrier repair cleanser or something like that.

Do you think your skin barrier is in trouble?

Tasharuby1 · 25/01/2020 20:45

My skin was fine up to getting Gastritis and hitting the menopause.
But I did retire and became a Dog walker for the last 4 years. But I had to pack it in due to rosacea.
I used Clean n Clear since being a teenager and oil of Olay sensitive.
So yeah think my skin barrier is screwed. I’m using Cerave Smoothing face wash in the evening and just water in the morning followed by Cerave moisturising lotion.
But I think all though my skin tolerates the Cerave Smoothing face wash better than the hydrating one I think it’s stripping my skin.
Problem is I have sensitive rosacea skin and Seborrheic Dermatitis.
The Docs tell you to wash your face with head n shoulders or anti dandruff shampoo it’s an impossible situation as my skin is so sensitive from rosacea even water irritates yet the docs tell you it but harsh shampoo designed for the scalp . It’s ridiculous that no one has designed a face wash for Seborrheic Dermatitis that’s mild enough to use if you have rosacea as it’s common that the condition crosses over . The docs are way behind the times in the uk .

shuttheblinds · 25/01/2020 20:47

I really wanted to love the cleanser and did for 3 weeks. After that it brought me out in huge painful hard spots/lumps on my face, they were awful! I stopped using it and haven’t had one since. It doesn’t suit my skin at all.

BemidjiMinnesota · 25/01/2020 22:06

@Tasharuby1

Try Neutrogena Hydroboost as a 2nd cleanser. It's great for dehydrated skin and isn't heavily perfumed. I use the gel version but I think the milk version is even gentler.

If even water irritates your skin it sounds like you have a damaged moisture barrier and most products are going to trigger you until it's fixed. I had this too and Cerave actually made it much worse. What worked for me was to stop using any harsh, stripping products at all for 6 months, applying 3 or 4 thin layers (Google 'Korean 7 skin method') of a gentle hydrating toner to skin, then a serum, then a moisturiser, then a thin layer of Aquaphor over the top to seal everything in (night time only, unless you want to look slimy!) I got a Rosewater and glycerin toner from my local chemist for about £2 and it really soothed my dehydrated and inflamed skin. Going back to basics and using really gentle stuff worked for me. My face is a normal human colour now, instead of being like an angry tomato all the time!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/01/2020 23:10

Tasharuby1 do you wear make up because if you don't ,then ditch the face wash altogether and just use water and moisturiser?

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/01/2020 23:11

Have you tried aqueous cream?

OP posts:
Tasharuby1 · 26/01/2020 09:23

No I’ve not used aqueous cream. I’m afraid it’s going to block my pores even more.
I do use epimax on my body though. My skin seems to have gone thin and allergic all of a sudden.
I can’t use Aquaphor as I’m allergic to lanolin.
I’m so ashamed of how I look and I can’t even cover it up with makeup as this makes my skin worse.
I’m 48 I can’t even wear eye makeup or lipstick as my lips are constantly peeling. I feel and look like a druggy. But I don’t drink or eat sugar or gluten or processed food I just don’t know what to do.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/01/2020 09:30

Aqueous won't block your pores as you wash it off. It got a bad press for a while as people were using it as a moisturisers and leaving it on the skin but ime I've found it good but you must wash it off with a flannel and tepid water.
