Shampoo for fine flat and greasy hair?

Crabonastick · 22/01/2020 15:13

Hey

I’m at my wits end with my hair. It’s fine, flat, and gets greasy so quickly. If I wash it in the morning, it looks greasy by the evening and that makes it look even more flat.

I’m going to cut it shorter as it is driving my mad, but wanted to at least try an anti greasy shampoo in the mean time

Can anyone make any recommendations?

After washing, put some mousse in it and then dry it upside down.

Shampoo bar - i use one from Yorkshire Soap Company at the moment. It has made a huge difference to my hair.

I use baby shampoo every second day seems to really help only use conditioner once a week. Dry shampoo in between

Definitely a water softener. I also use a shampoo designed for hard water areas. Hair is no longer lank and lifeless, such a difference!

SmileyClare · 23/01/2020 21:03

butterry what is the name of this shampoo for hard water? I've never seen such a product.

butterry · 24/01/2020 00:15

SmileyClare the one I use is called Malibu C Hard Water shampoo. I bought a 1 litre bottle online

@capercaillie I can't find shampoo bars on their website.
I'm a big fan of shampoo bars.

Pencilplantironingboard · 24/01/2020 06:42

@capercaillie found them you have to look at the right section. If you search shampoo bar it comes up as no results.

On a recent holiday in France I bought DOP shampoo with eggs.

I've gone from having to wash my hair every 2 days to every 3 or 4!

Wish I'd bought more as I'm not back that way until April! Think it's on eBay though.

The water hardness makes no difference to mine. I live in a soft water area now and my hair is just as limp and prone to greasiness as ever! Definitely going to try some of the suggestions on this thread though.

Lucked · 24/01/2020 12:26

I am in a soft water area and find mine improves when I visit London! Always assumed the minerals were making my hair a bit thicker and absorbing a bit of the grease. Probably different to living in a hard water area and having a build up though.

Thanks everyone

I’ve actually had a bit of a revelation when reading all your suggestions- I should have asked ‘how do I have clean, fresh, slick, voluminous and bouncy hair without having to actually wash, dry or put any effort into it?’

I had a proper think about what I actually do with it and realised that I haven’t even been shampooing it properly!!

So the last two time’s I’ve washed it I have

  • scrubbed the scalp rather than the hair per se
  • rinsed and repeated
  • conditioner only on the ends down my back. Not curled up in a ball on my head
  • very cold blast of water before getting out the shower as I sweat for ages afterward my showers are so hot
  • upside down blow dry with volumn spray

I have to say there has been some improvement on the grease front!

That’ll teach me for being so lazy I wasn’t even shampooing properly Blush

Ps- my hair is still fundamentally shit

Great news OP. I do most of those things too.
It's worth taking time to wash the shampoo out completely.
Definitely avoid conditioner near your scalp, that makes a huge difference. I find washing my hair leaning upside down over the bath better at getting it washed thoroughly and not getting conditioner everywhere. That might be too much of a faff for you, depends if you have time.

Going silicone free and sulfate free was a game changer for me! Otherwise I get build up and it looked greasy straight after wash.

Also ditched styling products. Just couple drops coconut oil on damp hair.

Dried using babylis big hair.

I tried shampoo bars but felt like they left residue and hair looked awful. Current fave is happy naturals ginger shampoo bought from Savers .
