Is this too white to wear to a wedding?

Just bought this lovely dress (still waiting for it to arrive). Do you think I could wear it to a wedding in July? No biggie if not. It’s probably too white now I think about it 🤔

Why do some people suddenly feel the urgent need to wear white/cream at weddings on here, all the time Confused

I am not one of those who cares but other people obviously do. If you have to buy new shoes etc OP but cant afford a dress 'just' for the wedding I'm not sure that makes sense really. I don't mind the dress but I think the style rarely looks good on anyone who isn't tall and willowy with a small bust, and I think it might feel stifling in July in warm weather- I'd also check it isn't see through in daylight- cheap ASOS dresses often are.

I'm not sure that the OP, or anyone else on this thread feels an 'urgent need' to wear white/cream to a wedding. Well, I can't see any posts that suggest that.

The OP actually says it's 'no biggie'.

It looks a bit shapeless to me, and the high neckline would put me off. But when you get it,and try it on,and you feel good in it, that will be all that matters..The colour is ok for a Summer wedding though.

I’m going to a wedding this summer. Last week I thought about what I might wear. With horror I found myself imagining quite a bit of white without even realising. When it occurred to me I laughed and remembered all of these threads. It was like an irresistible force drawing my thoughts to white !! Confused

happytobemrsg · 22/01/2020 20:53

Well! The dress was much creamer than I expected so had it fit well I probably would have worn it. Unfortunately, it was just too sheer. Apparently cream at a wedding I’m ok with, I draw the line at showing my pants 😂 the search continues

happy well that’s a shame. At one point above there were so many accessories being suggested the dress was in danger of not even being seen! Agree noone needs to see you knicks. Although if you have some in coral . . .

DateLoaf · 23/01/2020 13:00

Let us know if you find other good options OP- I like your style and am also thinking about summer wedding outfits. Hopefully we’re not going to the same wedding! Grin

BitOfFun · 24/01/2020 15:35

Can't you just buy a slip?

pelirocco123 · 24/01/2020 15:40

its not too white as it has a distinctive pattern on it

Puzzled as to why people think its not dressy enough ....who cares what anyone wears , its a celebration surely everyone is there to have a good time , not to judge other guests?

There’s already a slip sewn in, just not a very good one. I wouldn’t want to add more bulk.

I’ll share my other finds! Difficult though as I’m definitely shopping on a budget. I think my sister is going to offer to lend me this Reiss dress...

Oh, now that is lovely!

That’s really lovely.

I didn't know there was such a thing as "too casual" for a wedding these days, unless you're going to Princess Beatrice's wedding!

I'm not into dresses, but as dresses go, this looks absolutely fine for a wedding. I went to my nephew's wedding last year and wore a cream dress with a design on it. It was in the "wedding guest" section of Phase Eight's website.

Now I have a mid-blue dress which isn't very dressy but I am wearing it to BIL's wedding in March Nobody will be looking at me anyway.

I went to a wedding for the first time since 2004 last year. The dress I picked was one of many beige/cream dresses (for guests, not the bride) on the Phase Eight website. People buy what's available.

Franklymydearidontgiveadam · 25/01/2020 19:26

Much better xx

happytobemrsg · 25/01/2020 21:38

I’m glad people seem to like the other dress! I’ll give it a go

BunnytheBlueWhale · 25/01/2020 21:47

I think if you have to ask then the answer is don’t wear it

If opinion is divided here then you don’t know how the bride / other guests would view it so don’t do it

BunnytheBlueWhale · 25/01/2020 21:48

Second dress is ok, assuming it’s not a summer wedding

CherryPavlova · 25/01/2020 21:57

Personally I prefer the first dress. It’s covered in coloured stars so hardly likely to be confused with a wedding dress. See through isn’t a good look though.

I never really understand why people worry about what to wear. I’ve never known anyone be interested in anything other than what the bride wears - maybe bridesmaids at a push. Even then it seems forgotten a year later unlit was truly unusual. Wear what makes you happy and comfortable.

Tsubasa1 · 26/01/2020 06:34

I think its fine because it doesnt look anything like a wedding dress and has the funky stars on. Can I ask where you bought it i think i would like that myself!?
