Can I look good in wide leg trousers again?

I've always suited wide leg trousers/jeans best but in recent years have fallen into wearing skinny or straight legged jeans most of the time. I'm currently size 20, still pear shaped with big legs but now carrying more weight around my middle since having my kids. Struggling to figure out what suits my post-baby body and have no opportunity for long trips to the shops trying on lots of different styles.

Can anyone hit me up with suggestions for casual, comfortable outfits incorporating wide leg trousers? And what shoes? All my go to combos are straight outta the 90s/early 00s I think.

Also, can't wear cropped, cos cankles.

I have cankles. I think cropped with a low top shoe works really well and seems more slimming and current than the full length. Give it a try? You'll certainly have now options if you do as so many are cropped at the moment.

Thanks for responding @dudsville. Unfortunately cropped are totally out. My calves and ankles are, without hyperbole, enormous so anything that cuts anywhere between the knee and ankle is a disaster on me. It's a shame as I quite like the look on others.

I have wide leg jeans I wear with trainers (Nike airforce) I have tried them with boots but it just looks a bit dated. Also have a pair for work which work best with flatform brogues - so similar styling.

I wear wide leg trousers with trainers a white t-shirt and a biker jacket. I also wear them with jumpers or long sleeved blouses. I'm not worried about being fashionable.

I like wide legs with a cross over/wrap around top or a shaped t-shirt or jersey fabric top(rare as hens teeth sometimes though). It accentuates the waist. I think wide legs suit taller women, whatever size.
I am short, pear shaped and fat. I resemble a clown in wide legs unless I wear heels, sadly.

Next do wide leg trousers and they also do bootcut, which I think are really flattering. I wear mine with those double fronted jersey tops. I buy the tops in different sizes so I can go as clingy or loose as I like, dependent on how flabby I'm feeling! I think these types of trousers also look great with a nice tshirt, or simple top, and a blazer. I got a denim blazer on eBay, slightly fitted, and Iove the look.

What do you mean by double fronted tops @ChipsRoastOrBoiled, can you post a pic as an example?

The closest I've come in recent years to wearing wide(ish) leg trousers is with these ones from Zara. I wore them cropped as I'm just not sure about having the bottom of the trousers anywhere near the bottom of my shoe, I don't like it when trousers look like they are dragging on the ground. I returned these as I just couldn't really convince myself I liked them but am thinking more and more about maybe even a wider legged pair that aren't cropped. I don't wear office clothes so for me they would need to be worn with trainers I think.
Last time I could wear my own clothes (not uniform) to work was 2010 and I had two pairs of lovely high waisted wide leg trousers that I wore with black boots and a small heel. I also had a pair of the knee length culotte/Shorts that are making a bit of a come back that I wore with tights underneath.
I'm interested to follow this thread as I think there will be more and more of a comeback of wide leg and flare trousers this year.

When I say wore them I mean tried them on! Sorry didn't explain that very well. I sent them back after trying on as I couldn't really decide if I liked the look or not.

I’ve just bought some M&S wide leg trousers for £25which I’m really happy with. They fit really well and don’t crease. I would only wear them with trainers though. Currently wearing with shortish loose neck polo neck. Would also wear with t shirt and leather biker jacket.

@seeingdots Its just a simple, stretch jersey top, but the front is double thickness, very different to a tee and, I think very flattering. Here's a pic of one of mine. I usually get them from Jigsaw and Jaegar. Sorry, the pic isn't the best!
