First time buying trainers!

I have never worn trainers except for running or going to the gym but I think the time has come for me to join the rest of the world (a sure death knell for trainers as trendy wear as I am always way way behind).

So, which ones should I go for? I see on here people always refer to models or brands so I'm guessing not knock offs. I have size 8 feet so often always shoes that generally look cute and fashionable look like a parody in my size. I have a feeling white chunky trainers will surpass the ridicule of all others in this respect though.

It really depends on your style and what you'll be wearing them with. Have you got a picture in your head of how you want to look? A style role model?

I'm the same & ive just brought a pair of Kurt Geiger trainers. Mega comfy too! www.shoeaholics.com/women/trainers/liviah-white-black-leather-kurt-geiger-london

I'm really hoping the trainer trend sees me through the end of my days. I've always opted for comfort but this is like pyjamas for the feet. I will not want to give them up!

I'd go against the trend and suggest you try something new. Veja, stan smith, etc., are very safe/ common place.

I can only wear trainers because of a serious accident/surgery. I was astounded one day to look around and discover I’d become fashionable when I wasn’t looking. I wear Puma, Jigsaw, Air&Grace, Nike, Kurt Geiger. One day they will be taken from my cold dead feet.

I have size 8s too! The newer Air Max brands like 97, 270 and Axis look quite nice and aren’t too bulky

I'm still searching for suitable trainers - I want to be fashionable without being too try-hard, and I like the look of platform soles to balance out my general chunkiness.

I ordered some nice Adidas ones from ASOS but they look like marshmallow pasties on me. Hmm Back to the drawing board...

Yeah, I don’t suit Superstars or Stan Smiths myself either!

I also can’t wear Fila Disruptors, unless I actually want to look like a Tyrannosaurus rex.

I buy Italian trainers from Yoox.com. Always the same brand because I know the fit is comfortable on my feet. They are divisive though, some people think they are truly fugly. But they are well made, leather lined and so fashion forward that the styles from a couple of years ago still look edgy if you're over 40. Andia Fora. If you see a style you like, at a price that doesn't make you wince, they are wonderful. I bought my first pair in a UK shop, and they're wonderful, but I couldn't pay current season full retail price a second time.
