Comfy sandal suggestions to go to harem pants?

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 17/01/2020 12:00

I've been thinking (dreaming!) ahead to the summer, and, because of that, I've just ordered myself a pair of harem pants (baggy trousers that are tight at the ankles) as I'd love to achieve an effortless boho vibe in the hotter months.

But I have no idea what to put on my feet! Normally I wear socks and trainers/brogues with everything as comfortable footwear is a must! I was wondering about getting some Birkenstocks, but I worry that they may look very clumpy? Any suggestions?

I swear by my Saltwaters. So comfy and look great with everything.

Anothernamebitesthedust · 17/01/2020 15:36

I wear my Birkenstock’s or just flip flops with mine.

Ginfordinner · 17/01/2020 15:38

Earth Spirit

My Timberland sandals look good, super comfy and no chaffing!

I wear flip flops or my TopShop sandals with my harems (pic below)

Oo thank you all! Sorry for taking so long to reply - I'll have a look into all those options...

@Ellapaella - your harems are gorgeous too! May I ask - where are they from?

@peach are saltwaters comfy? I've just looked them up and the soles look quite thin?

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 19/01/2020 13:18

@Anothernamebitesthedust which type of birkenstocks do you have? I can't tell wether flipflop types would look better or slider-types wold look better?

@roses2 I never knew Timberland do sandals! Some of those look like really nice quality...

@Ginfordinner - earth spirit are a nice Boho alternative - thanks! It's a shame they don't have their own website though!

I walk miles in my Salties, they're the only sandals I've ever had that haven't given me blisters.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 19/01/2020 13:37

That's interesting @peach. They look great too...

I swear by Birkenstocks.

People love Arizonas which are the ones with 2 thick straps, but they're a bit Marmite. Personally I found other styles more attractive on the foot. I love the Floridas as they have 3 skinny straps and are a bit cuter whilst still being much the same.

The Mayari style is super popular on MN, I have them too and theyre amazing.

Russell19 · 19/01/2020 13:43

My birkenstocks are so uncomfy I hate them! They give me blisters at the toe and underneath my foot. They are the right size but the moulded sole just doesn't seem to match my foot at all!

Ginfordinner · 19/01/2020 13:47

I like Earth Spirit because the soles are moulded and offer more arch support than some of the sandals beloved by so many mumsnetters.

Pipandmum · 19/01/2020 13:49

Varka are the most comfortable sandals ever.

WhatTheFronti · 19/01/2020 13:50

Second the salty recommendations. I live in saltwater sandals for 7/8 months of year. I have 3 pairs with the ankle strap (white, tan and rose gold) and a pair of the retro slides (tan - no ankle strap) that I wear with dresses. They have a really nice new style that in very 70s boho that I plan on getting in the coming months...love em!

eminencegrise · 19/01/2020 13:51

Ella, please tell us where you got your harems? I live in mine! In Summer I wear my FitFlop slides with them.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 19/01/2020 13:54

@ElspethFlashman I didn't know about all the models - thank you! That's a great help! Hmm I think I agree - the Florida type is a great 'in between' style

OP posts:
MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 19/01/2020 13:59

@Ginfordinner - I noticed that about the ES style - they look the most practical!. @WhatTheFronti Although I think I like the style of the saltwaters the most, they look like they have very little arch support? ... can you run to catch a bus in them?

OP posts:
MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 19/01/2020 14:00

@russell what style of Birkenstocks did you have?

OP posts:
MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 19/01/2020 14:05

@pip thanks for the suggestion - Varka look so pretty - but again, like the salt waters, they don't have moulded soles, which I think I'd find uncomfortable? (Though I'm not sure because I've never had a pair before! Although I did spend most of my teens in flip flops and crappy 'ballet pumps' which were no more structured than a chocolate santa in summer....)

OP posts:
WhatTheFronti · 19/01/2020 14:28

Oh bus run...with ankle strap yes. the slides - no way! They can be very slippy in the rain/grass/tile floors (not a big prob where I live...it doesn't rain much at the moment...sigh)
To be truthful if I'm not wearing salties I'm barefoot (or in Vans in the 12 weeks of winter) so I'm not the best to advise on arch support and the like 🙂

Ellapaella · 19/01/2020 14:30

Sorry for delayed reply to everyone who was asking where my harems are from - they are Hush harems, I prefer the beater fit though and went for the XS. Sandals were TopShop last summer.
