It really gets to me! Come 4pm ish I’m wanting to wash my hair again. Any solutions, of the diet/ shampoo etc variety?

Nothing will really make a massive diffference, but one trick I learned on MN is to use dry shampoo right after washing (on dry hair) - works way better than using it when hair is already greasy.
Alterna translucent is great and doesn't leave any residue.

OP, I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum, but when I was young my hair was more prone to oily ness and I found hairspray made it worse. I had to stop using products.

I started using the 'say yes to carrots' shampoo (cheap, from amazon) when my scalp was itchy. Worked a treat (no sulphates or silicone, mostly natural ingredients) but it also mesnt I could wash my greasy fine hair every other day (assuking I put dry shampoo on ot just after it's dried) Highlights have also dried it out a bit and help hide the greasy root separation thing. Vinegar rinses once a week make it squeaky clean as we live in a hard water area which causes most of the problem due to mineral build up.

Loreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay products really helped me. There are quite a few clay products around these days. I have thin hair and a very sensitive scalp.

Use a clarifying shampoo every now and then.

I've been using Yes to Carrots on the back of this and OMG why did no one say how much it stinks your eyes Shock So far so good - I wouldn't say less greasy but seems to be less itchy.

SmellMySmellbow · 22/01/2020 16:53

@TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig glad you like it. Yes I originally started using it for itchy scalp (I think due to various drying shampoos plus ones with silicone in, and hard water area) and have never got it in my eyes before. Until just now. Holy mother of god the STING!

My hair is fine and is prone to being lank.

I really like Alberto Balsam in apple or mango and the conditioner which stops my hair getting greasy. Sometimes I wash it twice every couple of months or so although I don't use product. I rarely blow dry my hair but find if I do it stays much less greasy.

Due to work I wash my hair the night before and let it dry naturally, which it does quickly as its long and straight and is fine all the next day.

I've used all sorts of different shampoo over the years and find Pantene leaves my hair really lank. And the expensive shampoos don't seem any better than the Balsam.

Last couple of washes I have used conditioner before washing,it's really helped!

Reginabambina · 22/01/2020 17:11

It may actually be the quality of your water. Hard water does this to me (also makes my hair fall out). I’ve had a lot of visitors to the U.K. saying the same. When I go somewhere with normal water my hair looks amazing after a couple of washes.

You could try a boar bristle brush. The boar bristles distribute the natural oils more evenly throughout your hair and massage your scalp. Your hair should be smoothed out and will not appear as greasy at the roots or sides and dry ends will be conditioned.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/01/2020 17:46

That makes sense as to why the Revlon one step is so good, because it had boar bristles.
