It really gets to me! Come 4pm ish I’m wanting to wash my hair again. Any solutions, of the diet/ shampoo etc variety?

Stop touching it. 😂

Also. Conditioner first then shampoo.

SmellMySmellbow · 16/01/2020 17:14

Conditioner only on the ends. Spray a bit if dry shampoo onto the roots when it's freshly washed and dried (don't wait for the grease to appear) Use silicone free shampoo. 'Say Yes to Carrots' is a good one. Do Apple Cider Vinegar rinses once a week, or a clarifying shampoo. Don't touch it.

PantyGiraffe · 16/01/2020 17:17

I don’t touch it! And I don’t use conditioner either.

Have you tried a couple of different shampoos?

mrbob · 16/01/2020 17:19

Oh and do you wear it up or down?

MadameButterface · 16/01/2020 17:19

Stop using sulphates

doritosdip · 16/01/2020 17:21

What brand of shampoo do you use?
Any hair products other than shampoo?

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/01/2020 17:22

You're using the wrong shampoo for your hair type. It sounds like what used to happen to my hair when I was using Timotei (remember that).

Try washing your hair with soap and then using a little bit of (different) shampoo to give it a bit of bounce and shine.

PantyGiraffe · 16/01/2020 17:24

I use Eucerin Dermocapillaire because I’m prone to an itchy scalp. I wear it down but it’s only chin length. Other than shampoo I just use a bit of hairspray

My hair has always been like this, and I have no doubt it always will be. Just My (And your) hair type.

I used to think it was cos I was over weight (sweaty Blush and ate crap food Blush. But I lost 8 stone, took up running and weights in the gym and now eat 7-10 veg portions a day and only lean/low fat protein. Still greasy hair within 8-10h of washing it.

Incidentally my uber fit teenager has the same hair type as me and suffers the same greasy affliction. But younger daughter has her Dad's (curly) hair and she literally can go a week without washing it and you wouldn't know. Completely different hair type.

I've just got used to it and accept it. I wash hair every morning. Then if I need nice hair in evening I have another shower at teatime. Otherwise, I just grip it up so that the greasiness isn't obvious.

minipie · 16/01/2020 17:27

Too much harsh shampoo possibly. (Bit like washing your face too much with soap will encourage oily skin). Try a gentler more moisturising shampoo and only every other day.
Also maybe try evening primrose oil. Do you have any other related symptoms? Oily skin, spots etc?

StormcloakNord · 16/01/2020 17:27

I'm the same.

Honestly? I've tried every trick in the book, and about 50 (not exaggerating) different shampoos and they all do the same. Work for a little while then it's back to a greasy mess by tea time.

There's really not much we can do about it, and conditioning first is no use if you only put it on the ends anyway.

My current strategy is to keep a little teeny brush in my bag/on me at all times and any time I want to touch my hair or move it out my face I brush it out the way with the brush, and then brush my roots a bit too. Plus a little bit of dry shampoo here and there.

On the plus side, if your scalp is oily your face is probably oily too which means you'll always look younger 🤷🏻‍♀️

peekybootoyou · 16/01/2020 17:28

Me too. Fine hair?

FATEdestiny · 16/01/2020 17:29

Oh and I also dont condition (I have a short haircut so don't need it). Different types of shampoo make zero difference for my type.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 16/01/2020 17:29

Use less shampoo
Make sure you rinse it all out
Change your shampoo, maybe look at something without SLS/sulphates. I would not suggest anything for oily scalp or oily hair as it may be too harsh and make you more itchy, but could also make your hair even more greasy.

If you have itchy scalp, I would stay away from dry shampoo, but that's just my view and I'm no expert.

FATEdestiny · 16/01/2020 17:30

Me too. Fine hair?

Yep, me too. Fine and poker straight.

Teateaandmoretea · 16/01/2020 17:31

With mine it's worse is my hair is too short. It is too fine to cope with being long either Hmm

Dry shampoo is my best friend. It also makes it a bit thicker, I stick some on after washing it....

PantyGiraffe · 16/01/2020 17:32

Yes, fine hair and oily skin.

Wash anything you use on your hair like combs and brush thoroughly. Don't share comb or brush.
Wash your hair thoroughly . Shampoos vary and I find some supermarket ones are ok. Don't touch it or apply 'product' and don't play with it. If you live in a hard water area use lots more shampoo than you think you need - I moved from a soft water supply to a hard water area and it took me a while to realise why my hair was always greasy.

If you can, try to not wash it for a few days. If our hair is long tie it back in damp windy weather.

2020BetterBeBetter · 16/01/2020 17:35

I had no choice other than to use Voscene one day over Christmas and my hair didn’t look greasy for several days afterwards! Most unheard of.

Crispsandchocolate4 · 16/01/2020 17:37

As annoying as it may be washing your hair every day tends to make it greasy quickly. By washing it daily you are washing out all of the natural oils so your hair tries to restore them which gives the greasy look. Try and leave a few days between washes and get a dry shampoo for inbetween I now get a brand called Big it up by Phil Smith (they sell it in sainsburys) its the best one I've tried and believe me I have tried them all (its an inside joke with my family about my love for dry shampoo). Since doing this and stopping with blow drying and using straighteners ( i now plait my hair and sleep with it so its crimped) I have found my hair making a big improvement however you do have to bare a few days with it looking greasy to start with it is deffo worth it in the long run :)

MikeUniformMike · 16/01/2020 17:37

If your scalp it itchy don't use dry shampoo.
There used to be a really good Cien shampoo - a green one - but Lidl no longer stock it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/01/2020 17:38

Try Vosene or TBS ginger shampoo.

Eucerin will be very moisturising, probably too much for your hair.

goldenorbspider · 16/01/2020 17:39

Wash your hair less

Rainbowbabymummy · 16/01/2020 17:42

Are you washing your hair too often ? I was washing mine everyday and it would do the same so now I try leaving it every second day sometimes maybe three days. Make sure your washing all of the product out too
