Can’t work out what my style is....!

My best friend is effortlessly stylish. She always looks smart but also trendy enough to look ‘current’ but like it’s totally effortless.

I, however, don’t! I’m a size 16/18 which doesn’t help but I see loads of women of my size who look great.

I’m 39 and a mum. I’m not really into celebrities/famous people etc so can’t tell you who I think looks good even.

I’ve been through a phase of buying loads of joules stuff (it fits well and looks smart) but now I’m a bit bored of it. And, actually, I don’t really like the middle class horsiness of it, as I’m not like that myself.

Where do you get your style inspiration from?

Like the navy one above a lot. Where's it from? And thanks to whoever mentioned Kibbe - have fallen down a rabbit hole of Middle Eastern recipes and now I'm hungry!

The first three images are all off Pinterest, they don’t say the brand :(

@peanut ah you've taken me back to when we called plimsol type shoes 'daps'. Before trainers or converse. I'm from Wiltshire. Don't suppose you are too?

Sooverthemill · 17/01/2020 21:26

Just googled. It's from 'Dunlop athletic shoes'. And it's West Country.
London, Home Counties, West Midlands, Yorkshire & North West – Pumps

West Country & Wales – Daps / Dappers

Northern Ireland & Central Scotland – Gutties

Scotland – Sannies (from sand shoes)
Fascinating. Sorry to derail.

I agree with others. Start having a good old look at people. Buy a few magazines for inspiration. Look online. Have fun

Yes dappers is what we always called them at school!!! Lol

@peanut well that's very close. Bath used to be Somerset ( we used to get the train) and we went to Yeovil and wells for days out. I wish I still lived in the West Country.

Love all of those outfits! They are classic but not frumpy. Really like the first pic and now feel the need to browse new season Zara ❤️

peanutfoldover · 18/01/2020 06:38

Do Zara do big girl sizes? I’ve been looking at Oasis and they have some nice blouses and dresses.

I think I’m onto something now!

I recommend a free personal stylist session at John Lewis if you’ve got one near you.

SpeckledyHen · 18/01/2020 06:57

Have a colour and style session with House Of Colour . Random people on an Internet forum can’t really help you .
We all have a clothing personality - once you discover yours you will be fine .

LandTsmum · 18/01/2020 15:32

There's plenty of free information out there OP. Don't waste your money on a consultation. I made that mistake!

Start with a Kibbe test and check out

www.truth-is-beauty.com
30somethingurbangirl.com
www.style-yourself-confident.com/vertical-body-shape.html

Then have a look on Pininterest and Google for further info about body measurements, styles and personalities.

Thank you x

Am I way off here OP? From what you've said, I would suggest Yumi, Fever London and Emily and Fin as possibilities (you've already mentioned Oasis).

I would take a day and just go shopping, don’t just buy the first thing try loads on, new look , warehouse , Topshop all have lots of items in these styles. Chunky DR M’s with floral dresses are very instyle right now so you’re already ahead of the trend.
Sounds like you just need a bit of new love in your wardrobe .
I alternate clothes, Summer/Winter . Then it always feels like new because it isn’t sitting in my wardrobe all the time.
I hate looking at heaps of clothes , so mix it up with basics.
