Learning how to put make up on- aged 35

I'm mid 30s. I hardly ever wear make up because I don't really know what I'm doing and worry it might look awful. I don't have anyone I'd be comfortable asking to help me. My new year's resolution is to learn how to do 2 'looks'. Day and evening. Got no idea where to start though. Don't want to spend a fortune. What brands should I try? Do most people get make up from one brand- should I go to a make up stand in house of Fraser and ask them to help me?!
Can anyone recommend any youtube channels/ bloggers who might have good basic tutorials. I do own some make up but would love to wear more and just scared looks bad when I put it on. I want one professional look or evening (but not really, really glam). I want to look nice not to stand out. Really appreciate any ideas. Xx

Bobbi Brown in department stores has had very positive reviews from pp on here. Also try Sali Hughes on YouTube.

Lisa Eldridge (you tube and on her own website) does brilliant tutorials. From basics to intricate. Mostly on herself but also on others. Very easy and she’s lovely.

Very experienced make up artist.

Others to look at are:

Hannah Martin Makeup (Insta and YT)
Sam Chapman
Nikki Chapman. These last two uses to be known as Pixiwoo and have hundreds on YT tutorials. They also have them on their own instastories / IGTV pages. They are behind Real Techniques brushes.

Make up counters are good but they are trying to see to you. Watch a few tutorials, see what kind of looks and products look right for you and then hit a make up counter with an idea of what you want.
