40th birthday party. I'm size 14/16, apple shaped, good legs, short-ish hair. I like everything about this dress, but would need some kind of camisole under it in order to feel comfortable. Would that work?

Also, any alternatives to wearing it with bare legs? Please help, I'm completely hopeless with this kind of thing.

how old are you?
it seems q short

vivacian · 11/01/2020 19:18

Yeah, it is perhaps too short. I'll be 40 Grin

I'd perhaps like something a bit more colourful.

You'll be 40, not 400!
I think a camisole might make it look too frumpy. Try it without, maybe pinnup the front a bit?
You could wear this with opaque tights and ankle boots with a chunky heel.

Soontobe60 · 11/01/2020 19:23

The model is probably 5'8 or more, so if you're shorter than her, the dress will be longer on you.

npowerarebastards · 11/01/2020 19:24

It's lovely!

I'm
Just wondering what to wear for mine next month. I got a dress in the oasis sale but not tried it on yet.

vivacian · 11/01/2020 19:25

Thanks @soontobe60 That sounds like me, I was hoping someone would say opaques. Not sure about pinning it up, I could put a few stitches in it?

Aw thank you @npowerarebastards! I'm 90% happy with this menopausal body and I don't want to be apologetic about it at my party.

I don’t think the shape of the dress would flatter an apple tbh as the material cinches directly in at the waist and is baggy elsewhere

Lovely print though

combatbarbie · 11/01/2020 19:28

I have a shirt/top with the same style v front, was far to revealing even for me lol I tacked it with a stitch... Still going strong 3 years later.

vivacian · 11/01/2020 19:32

Sorry, not an apple, I'm pear-shaped. (I knew it was a fruit). I'm not very good at this.

I'm almost your age and size and would wear it. Wear it with pride! ;)

Shockers · 11/01/2020 19:47

It would definitely suit a pear! I think it’s lovely.

Shockers · 11/01/2020 19:48

Just put a stitch in the front- no camisole.

Shockers · 11/01/2020 19:49

I’d also wear sheer black tights- I think opaque would look too heavy.

vivacian · 11/01/2020 19:52

Ok, thank you for the support. I've ordered a 14 and a 16 to try on.

And in the meantime I'm going to continue eating for health, keep running, keep lifting, keep dancing and focus on the fact that I'll be surrounded by friends.
