Over the years the hair at the front of my head has receded further and further. I dream of bouncy beautiful hair but mine is just too thin and ages me incredibly (I'm only 42...). I've stumbled upon the Lucinda Ellery website and the transformations using their intralace system are incredible. Reviews online are, mostly, positive. I've booked myself in for a consultation. Before I potentially spend a bucket full of money... any present or past Ellery customers on here ? I'll be visiting the London office. Feedback most appreciated !!

Thanks for your reply . Your hair looks great . 😄

mmn124 · 03/02/2020 11:50

Can anyone who has had the system for a year or more tell me if it damages your own hair as read somewhere after 6 years of wearing the system she went bald as when she started it was really thin appreciate any feedback ,as this is my problem my hair is really thin and shows scalp at front but hate to think this system will make it worse in the future , but at the same time can’t live like this it’s making me so depressed and embarrassed .

PaprikaPringle · 03/02/2020 12:07

Thanks for the update, OP. That really does look lovely and natural. May i ask the cost?

@mmn124 journalist Sarah Vine has had a LE hair solution for a long time and she started wearing one when she had a lot of hair loss.

Hang on whilst I find a pic.

PaprikaPringle · 03/02/2020 12:12

I know she's an awful DM journo but her hair now looks great

Initial outlay was GBP 1100 and I chose the synthetic parting. I'm planning on keeping the system now for the foreseeable future. If my hair worsens (which it will most likely due to my genetic predisposition) and I can no longer have a system fitted, I'll need to get a good wig. As far as I understand though they can fit the system with very little real hair too. @sleepthiefismyfavourite has had her system for over 2 years, she might come back to the thread and advise !

@NewHorizons2020 - is the HairSolved hair human hair or synthetic? I went to Mark Glenn and had the extensions put in but they hurt, they annoyed me and I hated that I couldn't really style them because they were synthetic hair.

I have an initial consultation appointment at LE next week.

NewHorizons2020 · 03/02/2020 12:27

@SqueakyBinders human hair. I went to see Mark Glen for an initial consultation too but found the lady and general atmosphere at Hairsolved a lot more professional (just my opinion, you and other posters may have different experiences). I also didn't want synthetic extensions as they said they couldn't fit their weave system onto my hair as I still had to much and that was the only option available (apparently MG only offer synthetic hair extensions ?). I didn't go to Lucinda Ellery as I felt Hairsolved was the right option for me after my consultation.

OP posts:
SqueakyBinders · 03/02/2020 12:55

I know what you mean, OP. I got the same feeling at MG. They were super kind and everything but I also felt it lacked professionalism.

NewHorizons2020 · 03/02/2020 13:16

@SqueakyBinders good luck with LE! I had human hair extensions done too a few years ago and hated them. They didn't really do anything to disguise my extremely thin hair at the crown of my head and receding hairline. Was so happy to get them out again. The weave will take a bit of getting used to but i absolutely love it so far !

Hi NewHirizons2020

I am literally just looking at Lucinda Ellery online. I’ve had hair extensions for years but since I had my son , my scalp and parting really had become quite bald. It’s so distressing. Hair extensions likely haven’t helped.

As you have recently had the hair system installed can you tell me if it’s ok washing your hair with the interlace system. Do you know I have been married for 22 years and my husband has never seen my hair in its natural state. I would love to be able to not stress about covering up my crown bu wearing my hair up all the time it pulled back in a ponytail.

Are there any things about the system that is not so good. Really looking to understand all positives and negative. It’s very scary even contemplating it but I think it’s time.

Regards

Maggiean

Hi! Bit late on this but come across your discussion after seeing a lady who had a hair system fitted by Lucinda on ten years younger! I’m 21 and I’ve been at hair
solved since I was about 14! Had alopecia most of my life (started losing it at three years old, even though before I had such a thick head of hair) and when I went to secondary school had a system fitted by mark at markglenn. After having the hair system for 2 years we decided to look elsewhere. The way they fitted the system put pressure on my own hair, I felt, and they didn’t use human hair as they said synthetic hair was lighter on my head but it left me limited with what I can do, and it just didn’t look as real. I go to the barnet hair solved. I love it there. Everyone is so lovely and helpful. I’ve tried every parting going 🙈 the silk definitely doesn’t last as long but looks lovely, I do think it looks more realistic but to the eye of any other person probably wouldn’t think anything of it! I have recently tried the new parting they have, the lace front one! Got to say it’s gorgeous, a lot more expensive and doesn’t last as long as the others but it’s beautiful, I only go for this option tho as I’m a dancer at a performing arts college so it means I can do more with my hair. My hair definitely got thinner after using mark and hasn’t really improved and this year I’ve had quite a few things Go on which I think because of the stress, has made me lose more but I don’t believe hairsolved actually puts too much pressure on my hair, yes when they tighten it it can be painful and when they re align it some hair can be a little matted underneath so technically hair will always be lost when they comb that out, but I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t really care what it looks like underneath, as long as I’ve got this lovely hair on top who’s to know what’s going on under there! I like the thought that’s it’s not a wig and that’s it’s always attached to your head! That just puts me at ease lol. I would be open minded to a wig in the future should I ever need to use one but I’m so use to the hair system now. Obviously price is a big issue, I pay as I go ( well I don’t I’m very fortunate that my parents have always paid 🙈 dreading the day this will end, don’t know how much longer that will last 😅 but I’d always try to find the money as it’s definitely worth it, they obviously do the payment plan but I feel like that adds pressure on what u can have done because you only pay so much a month I believe and only get a certain amount of parts changed in the year. Any more questions feel free to ask! I will probably see you in there! This lockdown is a bit of a disaster though?! What are you all doing with your hair, I usually go every six weeks to get it re adjusted, and was supposed to have my appt on the 25th of April, I’ve bought some hair Wefts for my mum to sew in temporarily as I was supposed to have new hair put in, it’s handy to have her do this for me! I’ve asked her to do it a few times for me now, think she could work there herself! I also have got some micro beads hoping my sister in law can come round soon and change them as she’s a hairdresser and has used them before herself! Tbh she probably spends as much on her hair as I do always changing it and putting extensions in, she always makes sure she uses the best of the best hair too 😂

Lisloves · 08/05/2020 09:39

Hi @Maggiean
Above I discussed my experience previously!
As for any other negatives despite anything I’ve said I’d say you have to be prepared that it’s not a comfortable first few days when the system has been tightened! But at mark Glenn it was definitely more painful! And I know that when other ladies get extension they feel painful also. My twin sister (who I envy very much 🤣) has a beautiful natural thick full head of hair but had some nano top extensions put in recently to match my length of hair but she wouldn’t stop saying how uncomfortable they are so to me out hair systems don’t sound too bad considering how much she moaned. Obviously it will take some getting use to your putting fabric (mesh) and now hair on your head but o say this honestly, I myself forget about it’s on my head if that makes any sense at all! I don’t think oh I have a hair system on I just think it’s my hair! We have a few different things we have to do with it than other people without hair loss but it becomes our norm! I have a few bits of tape and use glue for the front of mine so that took me some getting use to, but use to it now I am! The annoying thing is that you never know how long the hair will last really because every weft has different hair in it, they try and use the best but some to mess the hair will last twice as long and other times it will just shed so quickly. I do tell them if I’ve had bad hair which they will always take pictures or they will take it out and send it to the supplier.
I have to say I love how you can change your style so easily! I have always forever had blonde hair however when i knew a whole new system was due I went a bit mad and died it all red, as it was coming out anyway! And cut it short with a fringe! I loved it, when I got my new hair system I went back to old me as I let the bright red colour fade anyway so was a justifiable change to go back to blonde and suddenly get long hair (extensions are so normal these days) most people know what I have down with my hair but others that don’t, just think I like to have extensions 🤣
Of course there are positives and negatives but I would always rather have it! I’d say the positives out way the negatives definitely! Xx

Plumbles · 18/07/2020 21:41

I have had a consultation at Hair Solved too. Perhaps we could keep this thread going to see how we all get on. I am so nervous about it.

Traddock · 15/10/2020 13:35

Lucinda Ellery’s intralace is a brilliant innovation.......but the cost is prohibitive, it is extremely painful and time consuming and it damages your own hair badly, I found. After cancer treatment damaged my hair I stuck intralace for 10 months but became fed up with the constant adjustments and the exorbitant cost. Subsequently I found a brilliant local hairdresser who does both private and NHS wig consultations and who found me a wonderful wig which looks exactly like my own hair did in its heyday! I couldn’t be happier.

Traddock · 15/10/2020 13:40

Lucinda Ellery intralace Definitely damages your hair....it did mine. I had it removed after 10 months for this reason. My advice is Avoid it at all costs and invest in a stunning wig or two.

Jennifer34567 · 03/03/2021 22:15

Hello,

I have used Lucinda Ellery and Mark Glenn.
Within 3 weeks of have my LE system fitted the parting was falling out. Over the 8 months I stuck with them, they had to replace it three times. See attached photo.

I changed to Mark Glenn who I was very please with but found the system quite heavy and hot.

I am now in the process of changing to Optima

www.optimahair.co.uk/

So far I have been very impressed. It is a totally different system, no harsh threading or soldiering. I have ordered my new system which takes 12 weeks.

Hard to describe but check out their website and the follow up appointments are every 8 weeks and get this, the cost is £76,

Happy to chat if you want to PM me.

I’ve had a hair integration system since august, really struggle with it sometimes tbh, I feel paranoid about how it looks, what people think. It doesn’t help I started a few job the same months and no doubt they all know as it’s a very gossipy place and I’ve told a couple of people - didn’t want it to be a big secret but yet it still feels like it is. I still mourn my pre-hair loss/mild hair loss self, and if it wasn’t for work, would still wear a hat most days!
Some practical things to consider when choosing real hair - my first one was blond/light brown with dark roots. It was literally the perfect colour for me, no fringe and same length as my natural hair (what’s left)... but as the toner wore off and the blonde became brassy/orange! The front lifted within a week I was conscious of hair line. And I brushed it too hard and it lost a lot hair, oops.
Bought 2nd one- went much blonder, and a fringe, but I’m conscious the blonde looks unnatural especially without roots, and fringe getting split ends, but can’t trim it!
At times I regret getting it but then I go back to get it refitted and see how little hair I have left and feel stuck between a rock and a hard place.

40hereicome · 23/05/2021 18:16

@Plumbles- how did your consultation at Hair solved go? Did you end up having it?
I had one fitted last week and have to say I do love it. But I’m anxious about people’s reaction when they first see it. Don’t want too many questions...
how have others dealt with the first few weeks of meeting people they know?
Would really appreciate any advice from anyone who has gone through the initial phase

Bluestar99 · 24/05/2021 22:25

Congrats! Great you love it. What are you planning to say? I would usually say “I’ve had extensions fitted” and found people rarely pushed for more info.
I’m on the other end. I’ve just had mine removed after nearly 10 months. And nervous about what people will say - but really I’m trying to remember that people aren’t as fixated as I am and it won’t be as big a deal to them- or any deal at all.
Might end up with another one again, but just wanted to see if if I could live without.

40hereicome · 24/05/2021 22:59

I’ve realised since meeting people today that most people don’t really care to ask too many questions. I’m one of these people that keeps thinking I wonder what they are thinking so keep talking and saying more and more. But as today was the first day of meeting people I’m happy to say I’m going to say less and less going forward...they simply say oh wow new hairstyle and move on.
Thanks for replying @Bluestar99.. hope you find the transition the other way ok. You are totally right though... only those with hair loss think so much about hair and others really don’t pay it much attention...

Bluestar99 · 24/05/2021 23:31

I think that’s the right way to go! People really don’t seem to care. Since hair loss, I thought I couldn’t meet anyone without sussing out their hairline! yet I work in healthcare and the other day met someone though work and half way through our appointment she wipped off her wig! And I’d had no idea at all. So I think it’s one of those things people just don’t really expect or focus on. I think the main thing is how it makes you feel. I’m hoping no one comment or cares about my new (much thinner) hair. Best of luck with it all x

Roseilee · 01/06/2021 09:02

Hi, newhorizons2020, I wondered if you could tell me how you’re getting on with your hair system? I’ve lost a lot of hair over the last year, and I’m considering something like this. I wondered if it itched and how conscious you are of it? I can’t find many reviews that talk about this,

Thank you

Fluff1001 · 02/12/2021 17:25

Sorry, I'm new on here and very late to this discussion! I know how miserable hair loss can be :( Mine's from trichotillomania.
I had a system done a couple of months ago for the first time, and just had it readjusted for the first time. Both times it has been quite tight. Both have been sore to lie on - the first one for about 7-10 days mostly, and I'm still in that phase for the readjusted fitting. I work around it by careful pillow placement! I hadn't expected this discomfort, never having had hair extensions before. You don't read about it online, do you?
That said, I LOVE how it looks - I feel like a normal person again (sorry I know I shouldn't think that way but living with hair loss can be really crushing). So, I'm going to keep going because the benefit outweighs the discomfort, which does seem to ease as the hair grows a bit.
Has anyone tried invisablend or similar - do those systems attach in the same way?
This experience of having more hair has opened my mind to the possibility of using a wig in the future, a leap I doubt I would have made if I hadn't gone on this journey.
Sending love to everyone living with hair loss xx
