If you were going to a lux resort (like Mustique but it's not) what would you take to wear in the evening?
I'm normally a flip flops/ cotton dress in the Greek beach bar type but I'm guessing more upmarket means dressier?
Reasonably healthy budget but not Melissa Odabash prices.
Any advice welcome, thanks.

A little nudge for any glam types out there.

Linen dresses, heeled sandals and statement jewellery. Clutch bag with a bit more of a holiday feel.

LaPampa · 08/01/2020 14:54

Have you looked up the resort as a location or hashtag on Instagram? If people have taken photos and tagged themselves there you’ll be able to get an idea of how dressy a place it is. That’s usually my starting place for gauging dress codes!

Palavah · 08/01/2020 15:03

For a luxe resort I'd still veer towards flat sandals, possibly wedges.

Tailored white shorts with a floaty blouse
Maxi dress in a statement colour.
Pucci kaftan
Think floaty cotton and bronze/old gold strappy flat sandals rather than jersey and flip-flops or glittery heels.

It really depends where it is and what kind of people go there. Some of the more expensive places I've been aren't that dressed up because the people there don't feel the need to try hard. Other places, often cheaper, are more Nikki Beach/Dubai style and full of keyhole dresses and stripper heels.

What are people wearing on the photos - resort website or Instagram?

X-post @LaPampa!

Thank you so much for the replies, looking at SM is inspired.
I've had a look at IG and the Pucci kaftans and floaty chiffon blouses are very much the look.
Mostly I can't see the footwear but it looks like bare feet or flat ? Gucci tan sandals.
Where would I find a gorgeous kaftan?

I've found this, it's cotton though?

Cotton kaftans are good though.

Ps can I join you I'm fed up with this winter weather haha!!

Ninkanink · 08/01/2020 17:48

Cotton is fine, it’s great for hot weather. Stay away from polyester and other man-made fabrics (viscose can be okay depending on quality).

For holiday wear I like Whistles, Jigsaw, Toast, Reiss and White Stuff.

Shoe wise stick to flat sandals but elegant ones like K Jacques & Ancient Greek Sandals. Wedges if you want height.

I wear flat sandals, bigger, brighter jewellery, dresses either maxi or short

Ninkanink · 10/01/2020 09:53

Yes, to clarify, when I said heeled sandals I don’t mean high heels, just a modest heel (one to two inches) to differentiate from completely flat sandals in daytime. That’s just my preference.
