Looking human on video calls

My work is really ramping up the amount of time we spend on video calls and I just look ghastly and washed out in photos and videos! I’ve invested in anti glare glasses so people can see my eyes but what else do I need to do to stop looking so horrendous!

I think it’s almost impossible! I do find that having my hair down seems to make me look better, as does wearing a bold lipstick (e.g. bright red) since it’s the only kind of makeup that shows up!

I more or less run my business via video, and the only thing I’ve found that helps is decent lighting. I use a ring light straight in front, and two shaded umbrella lights at the side. But I am in charge of my own set up, not sure what I would do if I was employed - try and avoid direct overhead fluorescent light, sit facing a window and pile on some slap, I guess!

Looks like I am doomed then as I work in an open office with the dreaded strip lighting!
