Nice thermals that don't show under clothes

I have the cheapo thermal T-shirts from Primark but they're not very warm and although they're thin enough not to be bulky under clothes they are standard crew neck style and show at the neck of most of my outfits. I also have one nice wool thermal T-shirt which is much warmer, but has the same problem of showing at the neck. Time to upgrade! Can anyone recommend nice (preferably merino wool or wool and silk) thermal layers that have a deep enough scoop neck that they don't show under clothes?

If you happen to come to France, Monoprix have some great ones in the sale at the moment.

uniqlo heattech

AuntieStella · 06/01/2020 14:26

This is not our preferred fabric, but Uniqlo heattech is brilliant, very thin, very warm, and has several cuts of tshirt in the range so it's quite likely ine will sit where you want it to.

quirkychick · 06/01/2020 14:29

I was also going to say uniqlo heattech. I think you will have to pay much more for merino/silk.

dontcallmelen · 06/01/2020 14:30

I got a couple from M&S with a scoop neck & 3/4 length sleeves they are the heatech fabric though, very comfy & warm.

Bella di Notte are the place to look for wool/silk thermals; they are excellent, but expensive. I wept when mine wore out, and replaced with Heattech, which is less delicate to wash, but not nearly as nice.

TheLightGetsIn · 06/01/2020 17:59

Ooh, I like the look of Bella di Notte! Might be able to justify investing in one of the camisoles, though probably not more than one.

Uniqlo ballet neck look like they might work, though it's hard to tell whether it will show at the shoulders. I'm hoping to find something pretty much totally invisible, so no higher than bra strap height.

The ballet neck works under most of my tops and dresses. I have a few variations of the heattech stuff. It's great, but I am too warm in the office (and still cold at the train station).

TigerJoy · 06/01/2020 18:03

Ballet neck doesn't show. What would you be wearing it under? I don't have anything particularly low cut so never had a problem with crew neck, generally.

TheLightGetsIn · 06/01/2020 18:09

Sounds like the ballet neck ones would work then, thanks. It's for under cowl/boat/scoop necks, mainly. I don't tend to wear crew or roll necks as they make my boobs look huge.

Another vote for both M&S and Uniqlo.

quirkychick · 06/01/2020 20:26

I didn't like the M&S ones as much as the uniqlo heattech. I've got a polo neck top in the M&S, but find it tighter and thicker whereas the uniqlo is thin and soft.

Try Patra for silk thermals - someone on here recommended them to me!

ghislaine · 06/01/2020 20:38

I’d also recommend Patty. I have a silk slip which gets heavy wear in winter.

Perhaps also try an outdoors shop for ski thermals?

ghislaine · 06/01/2020 20:39

Argh! Bloody autocorrect. Patra.

Laughterisbest · 06/01/2020 20:42

The Bella di Notte ones are lovely. I wash them with woollens in the machine, hand wash cycle.
They're expensive but last really well.
