Is Fabletics a trap?

Their leggings are so lovely and so far the only thing I've seen that compares to the hideously overpriced Sweaty Betty ones I wish I could afford. But the whole 'sign up for £44 a month, and you don't have to pay it, but if you forget to tell us we'll take it anyway' thing is worrying me. Is it impossible to cancel? Am I doomed to forget to skip it every month and spend a disgusting amount of money on sportswear? And is it even good?!

I really want some, but I'm not signing up for £44 as I'd forget to switch it off.

Shame cos those green ones have my name on!

dementedpixie · 04/01/2020 22:30

You can cancel at any time by calling them

dementedpixie · 04/01/2020 22:31

Allegedly

MissChananderlerbong · 04/01/2020 22:31

I signed up and even rang to ask if it was a one off, lady on the phone said it was. £280 odd pound later (once I'd realised thyd be taking money for months) it wasnt and I had to spend it on clothes I wasnt allowed the money back!
I could only get complete outfits, which was rubbish as often they'd pair a lovely top with awful bottoms.
I ended up with 5 or so mediocre outfits
I felt like such an idiot!!

Cheeseboardcriminal · 04/01/2020 22:32

I got sucked into Just Fab which is a similar thing but shoes. I kept forgetting to skip the month and they would debit my account meaning I then had to pick shoes or boots I didn't necessarily want.

ElfAndSafety1 · 04/01/2020 22:34

I've ordered from them before then called as soon as I had my order to cancel, was easy (it was a few years ago though). The leggings are still my favourite, the quality is great and they haven't worn at all

Pinkyyy · 04/01/2020 22:36

Realistically, do you need £44 worth of new sports clothes every month? You're better off just buying the leggings you like.

Swearwolf · 04/01/2020 22:43

Thanks everyone - so it's worth it if I cancel right away? I'd be worried I'd forget to skip the month and get charged for stuff I didn't want.

I could just buy them full price, but it's a difference of £15 vs £50!

Who needs new exercise clothes monthly!?

All my best running stuff has been from Matalan. No way would I pay that amount for clothes that get sweated on and washed all the time.

dementedpixie · 04/01/2020 22:47

You could order, check they fit ok and then cancel

MrDarcysMa · 05/01/2020 09:57

Let’s be honest, they obviously rely on people forgetting to cancel to make their profit - the leggings are amazing quality and they would go under just selling them £11 each!

If you’re smart and play it you can do well. I ended up with 2x accounts under deferent en-suite addresses as they are so good and I wanted more! Now I’ve cancelled I would pay full price if I needed more - the power hold ones really are that good.

You can cancel via instant chat. They try to persuade you but just stick to your guns and repeat you want your account cancelled instantly in terms with their t&cs and if they don’t do it now you will be making a complaint.

MrDarcysMa · 05/01/2020 09:58

lol email addresses - not en suite!

pangolina · 05/01/2020 12:07

The stuff is brilliant quality and it isn't hard to set yourself a reminder to skip the month. Iove their stuff and it wears and washes brilliantly.

PeachesandPie · 05/01/2020 12:10

I've had an account for years and have only once forgotten to skip the month when I had a 3 day old DC! You have 5 days to skip and get lots of email reminders in that time, it takes 1 minute to do. The quality of clothes is great.

Swearwolf · 05/01/2020 12:29

I think Peaches and Darcy have me convinced, I'm going to go for it!

eBay is full of the stuff in new or hardly worn condition (presumably from people forgetting to cancel and ending up with too much sportswear). I would shop there if you want to avoid the whole forgetting to cancel/skip a month thing.

blodynmawr · 05/01/2020 14:07

I'm with Peaches and Pangolina in the fan club Smile.
I too was a bit skeptical when a friend recommended them but I have been a member for a year and never forgotten to skip a month. The quality is fab. I mainly like their leggings.

peachypetite · 05/01/2020 14:11

I’d just treat myself to a couple of pairs of decent leggings and avoid yet another direct debit

MissChananderlerbong · 05/01/2020 14:32

I thougt the quality was terrible! And I should know I ended up with £240 of the stuff! 😂
The leggings wore easily, the mesh shorts they sent fell apart, a year on I dont think I've got any of it left. Ended up going for sweaty betty in the sale.
I wish you well with your fabletixs endeavours and hope you have a better experience than me. Maybe theyve had to improve due to all the complaints a year ago Smile

viccat · 05/01/2020 15:44

I was a member for about a year and only forgot to skip once. Totally my fault as they do send reminders by email.

I think on balance the business model is slightly strange - surely people would be more likely to just order as and when they want to if they didn't do the whole membership thing? And no one is going to buy every month as a member, or are they? Saying that, at least 90% of the bad reviews and people saying it's a scam just didn't read what they were signing up for, it was all very clear at the point of joining how it works...

PetaO · 05/01/2020 15:50

I've had an account for about 5 years. I love it! I go through phases of not needing anything for a few months but you get 2 or 3 reminders to skip the month before the deadline. I usually buy the active wear not the leisure wear. The leggings are great quality and mine have lasted ages.

tempnamechange98765 · 08/01/2020 21:38

Yes the quality is good! Especially the power hold leggings. I've had an account for a couple of years now and only forgot to skip once (I set a reminder for the first of each month). I keep meaning to cancel though, good to know it can be done.
