Every day simple stud earing - what metal - help!

I want to wear a simple classic stud in my ears all the time.

I prefer gold but have no idea what I need to guarantee in terms of plating/carats to ensure they dont fade/hurt my ears.

Can anyone advise what I should be looking for in terms of base metal, from there I can hunt out a simple stud with a stone from there.

Thank you!

I wouid go for titanium.

Try online, from piercing parlours or independent jewellers. Surgical steel is also good, but you usually only find that in studs for piercing (cartridge systems) and I've only seen plain metal balls (good/silver/gunmetal).

With titanium you can get all all sorts of colours and stones

If it has to gold, for solid.

I'm fine on 9ct but my ears were pierced over 40 years ago and have always been well behaved. If yours are recent or have a tendency to go gungy, then 18ct

All my earrings have come from here but I prefer a silver tone, so couldn't comment on the gold ones.

White gold.

White gold with screw on backs

I have just started wearing earrings again after years of not bothering. Cheap metals hurt my ears. I am now wearing small white gold sleepers, day and night, with no problems 😊

Proper 9ct gold or sterling silver is my minimum, my ears dont like plate

I find the earrings actually used to pierce your ears are good for not discolouring or irritating your ears

GreenTulips · 06/01/2020 18:52

Look on eBay for sterile earings - these are the ones they use to pierce ears and cheap as chips

x post with Green

Just had a look at my history, they are called Caflon

Sterling silver will be much cheaper than gold and won't give you a reaction.

Sterling silver or 18 carat gold.
