Eyebrow and Lash dye - why do my brows fade?

dun1urkin · 04/01/2020 18:57

I’m blonde and have almost transparent eyelashes and eyebrows, and basically look like Brienne of Tarth if I don’t colour them in (pic to remind you how ace she is, but that she looks better with a bit of mascara but on Grin)

I have difficulties with reactive skin with makeup so wear it infrequently, but have been dying my brows and lashes for about 30 (!) years now.

On to my problem - my eyebrows fade really, really quickly ( I don’t have this issue with my lashes)

Can anyone give me any ideas about what’s going wrong??

Thank you

Could be from your skin type eg oily skin, or even just from washing that area more frequently than your eyelashes

I'm the same & my brows fade more quickly too - think PP is right - my skin is oilier there & I guess washed more.

I dye mine at home then get lashes done by someone. Saves a bit of ££

Brows fade. They just do. Hardly worth the money. They’re easy to do with a home kit from Boots.

dun1urkin · 04/01/2020 20:30

Hmm it seems I just need to do them more often then

I do both myself, so not spending a lot of money anyway

Mine are see through and fade quickly even when done professionally, the only thing I have found to work is getting HD brows done. They don't last indefinitely just longer.
I was worried at first I was going to get caterpillar eyebrows but they're only really dark for a day or so then fade out to a normal shade for a few weeks.

What do you use to tint your eyebrows? Maybe the product isn’t strong enough?
I use permanent hair tint mixed with 20 vol peroxide, it doesn’t fade at all, but I can see the regrowth, I tint mine about every 3 weeks, eyebrows grow quite fast, what you think is fading perhaps is just regrowth?

dun1urkin · 04/01/2020 20:52

I use refectocil, no idea what strength it is... guessing not that strong.

SuddenArborialStop what do they do different with HD brows? I’m also scared of the slugbrow look, I want some colour and definition but am v pale so don’t want to be too scary

ZoeandChandon do you just buy some hair dye?? Like from the supermarket? I’m intrigued by this
How do you choose the colour? Is it in a bottle that you can just keep until you need to do it again?

Mine used to fade really easily ( having to have them redone every 2 weeks) but the new beauty therapist added a drop of black to the dye and now I go 6 weeks ( but need them waxed every 4!) I thought I'd look awful but they don't look any different.

ZoeandChandon · 04/01/2020 21:08

I buy a tube of professional tint from Sally and a bottle of peroxide, obvs only mix a tiny amount, equal amounts. I’m sure there are more suitable tints from Sally designed for eyebrows though.
I use 6.0, dark blonde, my hair colour is medium blonde.

Some skin products can fade them quicker such as those containing glycolic acid.
It's probably because you're only having them lightly tinted due to being so fair. A darker richer tint would last longer but would obviously be too heavy for you.
Don't use normal hair dye! You can buy professional eye brow tint and developer on eBay. Much cheaper than paying a salon. It's easy to do.

@dun1urkin the process seems to be the same but the girls have said the dye is better... One of them put a bit of HD dye in my normal dye to apologise for a delay and told me not to mention it to anyone as it costs more.. That bit lasted long enough to convert me from the regular.
They're trying to sell the microblading to me now but I'm not ready to take the plunge
