The impossible search? Flat, leather, smart boots

I’m going round in circles and hoping someone has seen something that would work! I am looking for a pair of black, flat, leather, smart boots suitable for wearing with skirts/dresses for work meetings so that I can stop carrying round a pair of heels with me.

I am a size 8 so have to be a bit careful about style to not make my feet look even bigger, in particular no seams to the toes. There are millions of pairs of ‘riding boot’ styles but I feels like they look like wellies on me... I typically like a mid calf, ‘rouched’ boot but the only ones I can find are the Dune Rosalind which are uncomfortable.

Any suggestions gladly received!

Boots aren’t a smart item of footwear, hence why you’re having difficulty. You might need to rethink this. Especially as you want flat boots - heels definitely smarten them up.

Flat boots with dresses, especially mid calf, will always look more casual than corporate. I couldn’t wear mid calf boots at work but I suppose it depends on your workplace/industry

If you want boots, you need a pointed toe and either black leather or black patent finish. Ankle length would look miles better than calf length.

Have you tried ‘Fly’ boots?

LizzieMacQueen · 04/01/2020 15:34

Have a look at Ecco too. There's a sale on at the moment.

tenpoints Do a wide range of flat boots, with some lush colours and black.

You don't need a pointy toe or bunions (neither are a professional look).

Dune. Zara. John Lewis. All have what you have described above in at the moment.

Try Sainsbury’s Tu, they do some lovely real leather ones and always have size 42 in stock.

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/01/2020 15:42

I got some lovely flat, knee high boots in Russell and Bromley that I wear at work. Defo a bit more casual than a heeled boot though

Dr Martens Emmeline, or Flora or Theresa. The Dune ones you suggested sound good.

Moltenpink · 04/01/2020 15:46

These ones? Tu £55

These were my holy grail office boots - dresses, skinnies etc. Just looked for you and so glad they bought back the lace back style, it is so cute.

I bought them twice a decade ago. I was just about to buy them again but theybonly have an 8! Ha perfect if you like them.

Skatesbythesea · 04/01/2020 15:49

I'd forgot I'd wrote this but hoped you'd see it. Glad you were able to snap them up. Sure they will look fab.

Also by reheeling/resoling you will get loads of wear from them. I also used black shoe polish every couple of weeks, they buffed up so shiny and kept them looking good.
