Dd I’d on long term antibiotics for acne - she is only 13 and was referred to a dermatologist in the summer. We are really lucky that our local hospital has got one of the UK’s leading professors on acne.

She is on Eythromycin 1000mg a day plus epiduo or differin. Latest research shows that the topical treatment helps to stop resistance developing so they are really keen that both are used together but eipduo was too harsh for DD on a daily basis even if it was applied and washed straight off.

She also had laser treatment.

Amazing care from the hospital, everyone is so nice and treats DD really well (she is painfully sensitive about it). 😞

Her skin has improved 100 times which is really good for her self esteem.

calledyou, that’s a really shitty thing to say, don’t you realise how these things affect people?

I disagree it’s acceptable to have pus coming out of any part of you, it’s disfiguring & I wasted years on products that didn’t work.

My daughters acne kicked off her self harming again when we hadn’t had an incident for a year so in our view (and the GP’s) antibiotics are worth the very small risk

That’s sad Hoppinggreen. It’s such a horrible condition.

The research I read on long term antibiotic use suggested that any risks were greater in the 40 plus age bracket. Even then the primary risk was not cancer.

I took antibiotics constantly for years for chronic pyelonephritis, you do what you have to.

Severe acne had an absolutely awful effect on my young teen’s well-being.

I took roaccutane which pretty much cleared me from bad cystic acne to now the odd hormonal spot on chin. It's miracle drug. But it has to be prescribed correctly and for long enough...

DelightfulBox · 04/01/2020 19:45

..... and only prescribed to the right person which in our case is not DD.

Not for me but the pill did.
