I’m not buying any beauty products for myself this year

Unless it’s something I need or use regularly already and have run out of

But I worried I’d already broken it today as I bought a new eyelash curler BUT mine doesn’t work any more and I use it every day 😬

Also do swaps count?? (I’d be paying for postage)

I've stocked upon my favourite shampoo and conditioner in the sales last week , it was 30% off and its quite expensive. I have enough for about 6 months or so now. I am counting that as replacement though as I would have been buying it anyway, I just would have spent about £40 more on it.

@Costacoffeeplease You are more sensible than I am! See I buy things like the Soap & Glory Christmas gift set every year and then Rituals and l’occitane things i buy at the outlet shops or get as gifts or in beauty boxes. Honestly I will be so satisfied to actually finish these things!

Does buying beauty things with a giftcard I had for Christmas count? I don’t need anything, but it’s so tempting. Especially when I’m not using my own money!

BunnytheBlueWhale · 03/01/2020 22:32

@Sarahlouiseis33 I think that’s fine! If you’ve got the gift card, you’re not spending any money in 2020 and you may as well spend it on something you want!

I did this in 2019.

I stick to the cheap make up remover, cleanser, moisturiser & night cream, facial oil and SPF that I found over time worked for me. Plus a couple of cheap ‘all purpose’ products like Vaseline (good for overnight moisturising) and castor oil (good alternative to Revitalash). Eliminated any need for anything expensive.

Pared my make-up right down to the basics I need for everyday, with a couple of lipsticks and an eyeshadow palette for nights out.

I saved a fortune.

I only buy new when I replace something that’s run out and don’t bother reading up about the latest beauty products so I’m not tempted.

Do it!

@CheeseNOnionPasty What are the cheap skin add items you have found ok if you don’t mind me asking? Is there a certain brand you use?

I’ve just found cheap stuff I like over the last couple of years and have gradually phased out the pricey/luxury/latest fad stuff that either didn’t live up to the hype or was no better than the cheaper options.

I use:
Simple Wipe-off cleanser
Superdrug Vit E cleansing oil
and/or Vit E hot cloth cleanser

Aldi Lacura Q10 serum or Aldi Lacura caviar night cream (really rate the night cream)

Superdrug Vitamin E facial oil if my skin feels like it needs it.

Biore Watery Essence SPF50 facial sunscreen (get it from Amazon, brilliant stuff).

I’m not saying these are holy grail products, but they work for me and have brought my beauty spend down massively.

I’m doing this! For the following reasons:

  1. Financial. We are trying to massively cut down on random spends and last year I was guilty of shopping too much.
  2. Beauty advents means I have loads of lovely minis to use up. I’ve also got stuff as gifts. Combined, I’m good for the year.
  3. the clutter is driving me mad and I need to get this stuff used!
BunnytheBlueWhale · 04/01/2020 17:33

@CheeseNOnionPasty Thanks. I quite like Simple too. If it works and is a good price then that’s all you really need! Interested to hear you like the Aldi stuff. I love Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream and bought the Aldi Lacura copy but haven’t tried it yet.

Hey @Writersblock2 I think I recognise you from the swap thread!? It is so good to use things up and make space. At the minute I just have a few too many things to fit well into my make up drawers so that alone makes me want to get rid of things!
