Anyone who does gel nails at home

DH bought me a start up set for Xmas to do gel nails at home, a sensationail kit from boots. I have the lamp and a couple of small products but wondered what products I need (thinking of doing an amazon stock up) apart from other gel polishes to do them properly? What do you have in your at home kit?

Nail cleanser, lintfree wipes, remover, base and no wipe top coat (this brand is good

The start-up set should have everything - base coat, colour and top coat, plus the lamp and alcohol wipes for removing moisture after you've cured the gel. Anything extra would be cuticle oil, emery board and things like that.

My top tip would be:

  • Bottle of nail prep & wipe solution
  • Small glass dappen dish (to pour a little solution in)
- Small gel nail brush to dip into solution to clean up sides of nails

This will make for a much neater finish when you are starting out.

Decent nail files to shape and prep nails plus a white buffer time smooth and refine them. Like decorating, it's all in the preparation!

If the starter kit has everything you need I would hold off on the extras until you are sure you will use it. I've had a few kits over the years from sensationail and never used it more than twice before each kit got relegated to the back of the cupboard.

I do mine at home. I watched a YouTube tutorial first and then did them. It’s worth doing it properly I have found. If I rush then they last a week or so if I spend longer then they last at least three weeks.
