Confused on bra size??

Ive always worn a 32B as it’s the closest that I’ve found to fitting me properly. Its still uncomfortable and loose at the top of my bust. I have small/average tear shaped breasts so bras are either too tight or too loose. 🤔 I was measured in m&s and was told I was 32B also.
Working it out via measurements online it says I’m a 28DD
Bust: 32
Under bust: 28
But surely because a B cup doesn’t fill at the top due to my shape, a much larger cup would fit worse? 🤯
Any thoughts would be appreciated x

A B cup on a 32 back is not the same as a B cup on a 28 back as cup sizes are relative to the back size.

32B = 30C = 28D - these are sister sizes and have the same cup volume.

Your measurements suggest 28D btw (4 inches between under and over bust)

The cup on a 32B is bigger than a 30B and smaller than a 34B, so there's no such thing as a 'B cup' size.

Give the 28DD a go, try it on back to front first and check the band fits- you should be able to fit two fingers under it on the loosest hook (though if it's looser you're stuck as nowhere does 26 bands!). Then put it on properly and scoop your boobs into the cup. If it feels tight then, or if there's overspill then you might need to go up a cup. If it's tight but there's also room in the cup it might be a style issue.

Ahh okay! Makes more sense lol. All this bra sizing is so confusing to me. I'd pretty much given up on bras and just wear sports bras because bras are so darn uncomfortable for me. Hopefully I can get the right fit x

Have you tried a half cup or a balcony bra with less fabric on the top?
