Quick skincare question for those who know about advanced skincare

My skin is very pale (NC 10 ish) and quite marked from whenever I get a bite or pimple as I can never leave them alone and then I get scarring which really stands out on my ghostly skin.

So on the strength of some reviews I've just bought two new products which I've never dabbled in before, up till now, just facial oil and moisturisers of various kinds.

  1. Oskia Lactic Acid liquid mask
  2. Sunday Riley A+ dose retinol serum

What I don't know is how quite to use these two products in terms of frequency and can I / should I apply them together or are they basically the same thing and I should alternate?

Thanks

Sounds like post inflammatory hyperpigmentation scarring, it’s aggravated by sun though so you need a spf 50 sunblock every single day.

What do the instructions on the products say?.

Yep, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation scarring but my skin is uneven in tone generally even where there is not an area of trauma. I realised that I needed to try a bit harder and both these products have pretty good reviews overall so splashed out.

Only the Oskia has arrived so far and that says 2-3 per week but don't know if they do the same thing or can I apply both together.

I wouldn’t put acid on with retinol, build up slowly because they both peel.

Have you got a good sunblock?.

I have some I take away on holiday, factor 50 , never use it in the UK unless it's summer and a hot day of course.

Both of those make your skin sensitive to uv so you’ll need a fresh sunblock because it can degrade in the tube.

Wear it every day.

Use the mask once a week (it looks like a concentrated acid toner, even though lactic is one of the gentlest acids) especially if you never used acids before. Don’t use any acids the same day as a retinol product.

Start the retinol every 3 or 4 nights and build up to nightly use very gradually if you haven’t used retinol before.

Use high SPF daily.

Be gentle to your skin and enjoy!
