Skincare routine: what am I missing or doubling up on?

All that I know about skincare has been gleaned from these boards and so, apologies, as I am sure this sort of thing has been covered before but I can't quite work it out. I'm in my 40s, prone to hormone related spots but otherwise clear, quite dry skin although I do react to a lot of products especially heavy creams (nivea or similar as a moisturiser is a definite no)

My skincare routine in the mornings is:

  • wash face with Superdrug Vitamin E foam thing
  • Boots No 7 serum and/or Ordinary Buffet (are these effectively doing the same thing? Does it matter if I wear both or would it be better for one to be a moisturiser?)
  • La Roche Posey factor 50
  • make up if I'm bothering to wear it (at most, consists of primer, foundation, eye shadow, mascara, blusher, lipstick)

In the evenings

  • if worn make up, Garnier Micellar water
  • Clarins foaming cleanser
  • Pixi glow tonic
  • maybe some Ordinary lactic acid
  • Aldi moisturiser or some rose facial oil from TK Maxx

The good thing about the above is that none of them seem to cause any reaction. I just wonder if I should be doing more or something else.

Thanks

Foam cleansers can be prone to drying skin out, so if you’re on the dry side maybe consider trying another.

Caroline Hirons has great blog and she’s over 40, and has great advice. Also Trinny Woodall has fantastic advice on skincare.

I would use either no 7 serum or the ordinary buffet not both. Also test one for a couple of weeks and then other to see which you prefer. The ordinary product can be used AM and PM so maybe introduce that into evening too.

If you’re not using retinol maybe introduce, research into this though as you don’t mix it with other acids. This is an evening addition.

I’m also a fan of microneedling, again worth looking at.

I see you didn’t mention eye cream- this is a must for any age, again am and pm use.

Amazing. Thank you.
I have tried Caroline Hirons but find it a bit overwhelming. I will try again.
I tend not to wear eye cream as then I get loads of white heads in that area.
