Help me plan my graduation look

Graduating uni summer 2020 and I'm panicking about what to wear.

I'm sort and fat with big boobs (trying to lose weight between now and then) and would really really like to look good.

I have anxiety and I'm worried about the whole thing so knowing I look good would really help.

Most of your outfit will be covered by the gown anyway so concentrate on your shoes ! This was the only thing I noticed at my sons’ graduations , along with their smiling faces .

RuthW · 28/12/2019 23:06

It was my dd's this year. I agree with shoes and choose an outfit that matches your sash or whatever they are called.

Have you looked at Pepperberry/Bravissimo? I’m big if Nork and always receive compliments in their clothes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/12/2019 23:21

Agree re shoes. And also agree that Bravissimo is worth a look - I have a gorgeous plain black dress from there that is so flattering, although you might be better waiting until their summer stock comes in.

Thanks for that but they only go up to an 18 and I'm between a 22-24 right now.

Try Tx Maxx they have a good plus size range of dresses.

justaweeone · 29/12/2019 16:53

My Dd graduated this summer and ordered lots of coloured dresses
In the end she decided on a black one so there was no overkill with her gown
Instead she wore fab leopard print sandals and looked great
Just make sure the shoes you pick are easy to walk in!

HappyHarlot · 29/12/2019 17:29

Agree with smart plainish dress and amazing shoes.

My friend wore killer heels at ours and at my DHs a woman had pink glittery Irregular Choice shoes that dazzled under the stage lights.

I went for bright red shoes with a navy dress, but low heels so I'd be less likely to face plant the stage in front of hundreds of guests!

I have a pair of these that make me feel fab. Super comfy to walk in too.

Thanks for the dress suggestions.

Was thinking about trousers and a really nice top but not sure!

Just check your dress code: mine is very strict with black and white only allowed, which is a pity as I quite like the idea of red shoes.

WillaDaPeephole · 29/12/2019 21:19

When you choose your clothes, make sure the neckline sits in a position where you can discreetly pin your degree hood to it, otherwise you’ll spend the whole ceremony adjusting it!

QuestionableMouse · 29/12/2019 22:18

Thank you!

Might sound ridiculous but I'm kinda dreading it. I have anxiety and I'm worried about getting it right.

SpeckledyHen · 29/12/2019 22:35

OP you don’t have to go .

QuestionableMouse · 30/12/2019 16:15

I actually want to but I'm just getting anxious. I'll be fine (I think) once I know how it's all going to work. 😀

justaweeone · 30/12/2019 20:56

OP
You've work so hard and you need to go
Once you've worked out your outfit you'll feel much better
I I understand as I would be the same xx

meditrina · 30/12/2019 21:00

Go for proper sub fusc - white shirt (of reasonably sturdy construction as you'll need to anchor your gown to a button) and black skirt or trousers. Both of which will probably get oodles of use in your graduate employment!

Then get fab shoes if you want a frivolous touch

QuestionableMouse · 01/01/2020 00:17

Thanks! I have a pair of fantastic Irregular Choice heels but they're a bit too high for me at the moment.
