Radiator covers: are they outdated or very much still in? (Boring af thread I know!)

We’re due to complete on a lovely Victorian in the new year and I’m trying to sort out how I want to decorate. I quite like a radiator cover but my do says they are circa 2010 and now are quite old fashioned. I like interior design but have to admit I don’t have a bloody clue what’s in and what’s not these days. Thanks

You might want to post in DIY/property
I’d say naff

I have a couple to hide my ugly radiators. I don't care what's in or not. Go for it if you like them OP.

The Hinch woman has lots of radiator covers so I would say naff.

If I was doing it properly, I'd get those old fashioned looking cast iron radiators. However, if you like radiator covers who cares what anyone else thinks and tbh, I don't think I'd even notice them.

Love my radiator covers infact getting more. But have v ugly radiators

astralweaks · 28/12/2019 21:09

Utterly naff as someone has already said. It’s a parallel to loo roll covers.

I think the Mrs Hinch comment has given me my answer. Good idea on the cast iron rads, I will look into it.

What kind of radiators are in now? Radiator covers are pretty naff. If budget allows then lovely column radiators would look great.

If I was doing up a Victorian house I'd get cast iron ones. Radiator covers are better in newer houses as cast iron can look out of place, and some people don't like very modern ones. So it's a compromise. If you don't have to compromise, and the age of your house suits them, then cast iron are the nicest. Only in my opinion of course. Just go with whatever you like.

I have a radiator cover. I didn't realise it's naff! It's useful as a shelf and makes the place look tidier. If I was doing a house from scratch with a massive budget and space I'd get cast iron rads and shelfing put up.

I have a 60's house and got one specially made in oak for our hallway with a separate mirror in an oak frame hanging overhead. It's both stylish and functional. I've loved it for about 14 years now.

I have incredibly ugly storage heaters.
So radiator covers are the lesser of two evils.
I'd like to find one that doesn't warp though.

They are very naff.
They also block heat which makes it even more puzzling why people might get them?
