Skinny jeans for skinny child

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/12/2019 18:44

Dd2 is 9 and is desperate for jeans that fit her. She's tall and skinny. We can find jeans that are long enough, and they have the elastic in the waist to tighten them up, but she ends up with a huge amount of fabric bunching round her bum, which she obviously doesn't like as it feels really odd.

So does anyone have any ideas where I can find jeans for a child who needs age 10-11 for height but could really do with age 7-8 round the waist and bum? Or do we just need to accept she can't have well fitting jeans till she's into adult sizes? Just live in leggings for the rest of her childhood?

DD 11.5 now, got her age 15 skinnies for Christmas, altered the internal waist button on elastic strap things, fit perfectly!

10 euros with delivery!

Another one for H and M. Their leggings are skinny fit and fit my slim daughter perfectly.

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/12/2019 20:07

Thanks for all the suggestions, we'll give them all a try. H&m are the most convenient so we'll try them tomorrow, then see what we can get online if they don't have any that fit.

H and M jeggings defo. Next has some pretty skinny jeans too

Hello1290 · 27/12/2019 20:11

I meant their jeggings!

Another vote for vertbaudet/La Redoute. Very narrow through the bum and waist but good length in the leg

WildCherryBlossom · 27/12/2019 20:20

My DD is long legged and skinny. We usually find the best fit for jeans is Gap Skinny fit. She has had an H&M pair too which were cheaper but the fit wasn't quite as good. Too much elastic meant they quickly went baggy around the bum. Zara does a wide range of leg shapes too. She is currently loving a pair which are like dressy leggings. They are a heavier weight of jersey than most leggings and they have a seam down the front so they look good dressed up as well as for casual wear. We've never had any luck in M&S - their trousers don't suit her body shape at all. And we had a couple of hand-me down pairs from Next which were way too loose.

Sainsburys is where I get jeans for my skinny 13 year old. I usually wait until they are 25% off.

stripeypillowcase · 27/12/2019 20:24

tumble&dry

Londonborncatty · 27/12/2019 20:27

Gap do a skinny style in a slim fit. Zara skinny jeans are good too.

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/12/2019 20:31

I've ordered some from la redoute now. We measured her, and according to their size guide she needs age 6 waist, age 8 hips and age 12 length. So I've ordered several styles in age 12 and will send them back if they don't fit right.

Thank you so much for all your suggestions. We never had this problem with dd1, as she was somewhat chubbier and lived in jogging bottoms anyway.

I like H&M. My DD has a pair from that are tight even for her. I dread to think how a slightly bigger child would get them on.

Agree with a PP about M&S. I got DD a pair from there and they are massive at waist.

Spaceprincess · 28/12/2019 08:52

My tall thin DS10 wears H&M too, they are definitely slimmer cut than other brands.

2pointfourmonkeys · 28/12/2019 09:03

Another vote for H&m. My 8 year old is in 9-10 or 10-11 for length and they fit great. They do a range of styles, from super skinny to baggier styles. Only thing is i've found that within the same size & style they can vary in how they fit so i always order a range. If you sign up to be a H&m member you get free delivery i think x

I have been pleasantly surprised at how H&M trousers last pretty well; given the price, I’d been expecting them to go baggy quicker. And DD is the climbing in trees/going through mud type.

LlamaofDrama · 28/12/2019 10:34

Another H&M vote here. DD9 is in age 12-13 for length, age 8 top half and waist and only likes skin tight clothing (a whole other issue!) All her favourite jeans come from H&M

Passthecake30 · 29/12/2019 08:46

My ds (12) is very skinny and wears Next "spray-on" jeans. They aren't super tight on him as he is so skinny (off the percentiles) but they fit better around his bum/waist than anything else. Worth a try for your dd?

LlamaofDrama · 29/12/2019 22:34

Another suggestion, took DD shopping today and Top Shop Joni in petite 4 were perfect on her.

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/12/2019 08:55

Thanks Lama we have a top shop so may well try there as well. Your dd sounds very like mine, we have an issue where she only likes tight clothes too.

If you get the leg right, you could perhaps have the waist altered.

Trudy2123 · 30/12/2019 13:29

Thank you @LlamaofDrama for recommending the Topshop Jonis. I have an 11 year old thrilled with her new jeans which are actually skinny on her!!

LlamaofDrama · 30/12/2019 13:54

@Trudy2123 yay! Glad to help.

Miseryisabutterfly · 30/12/2019 18:42

Zara are quite skinny fitting with an adjustable waist. My son is just turned 6 and very tall so wears size 9. I’m able to cinch them enough to stop them falling down!

Jcee · 30/12/2019 19:08

We have this with DD (10).... another vote for H&M although recently DD discovered dungarees which means we don't have the waist issue
