Where are the threads about looking polished?

Eesha · 25/12/2019 23:31

I need a revamp! I only look nice every fortnight when I go out seeing friends. The rest is hair in bun, no make up, glasses, jeans and a parka with converse. Some tips please to make me look polished for 2020. I saw another lady recommended lipsticks round the house to remind me to wear it. Other thoughts?

Nails neat, not chipped etc. Not too much makeup.

Buy a good capsule wardrobe.
Faux /leather biker jacket.
Long winter coat.
Good pair of winter boots.
Dark skinny jeans.
White shirt.
Camisoles.
Blazer
Pencil skirt
Ballet flats: pumps

Get a good haircut. Book a make up session at Bodyshop or department store.

😲 Wow , that’s quite a lot!!

Thank you! I'm going to have a read. I guess I know I need to make more of an effort in the days I'm out but not out out.

I feel 'polished' when hair is washed, conditioned and babyliss big haired Xmas Grin

Outfit on point Xmas Grin

Gel nails

Eyebrows shaped & tinted

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/12/2019 14:25

Tbh an eyebrow shape, a good hair cut & a cheap mascara go a long way.

I only use cheap products that are buav approved but I look nice.

Eesha · 26/12/2019 14:33

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet I'm the same, so for example I'm out tomorrow so doing all that. But then any other time say at shops etc, I'm a complete drab with my hair up etc, no makeup, dull looking.....

Well, of course no one has time to wash, condition and babyliss their hair every day, but for day to day, I wash & condition it the night before. (Every second night).
Get your eyebrows done.
Take 5-10 minutes every day to do your makeup.
Clothes - well fitted, e.g. Skinny jeans and a blouse.
Shoes need to be immaculate.
Minimal jewellery

Google images of people whose style you admire, and just copy what they do Smile

When I dress for my shape & in colours which suit me I look good.

Grooming wise, I have lash extensions which I love & I have recently had my teeth whitened. I’m very good at my day to day makeup & I don’t wear much (foundation, concealer, blusher).

I’m working on my hair next! It’s too easy to chuck up in a bun & I NEVER look groomed when I do that.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 26/12/2019 16:30

@happytobemrsg I would love lash extensions. I think I'll do that next. Xmas Smile

MiniGuinness · 26/12/2019 18:40

I am very lazy but I find a good haircut, teeth whitening, gradual tanning and tinted eyelashes and brows give me a few extra minutes in bed. I am also going for regular manicures and have bought clothes flattering to my larger figure instead of always thinking I will slim down.

For me:

  1. Eyebrows threaded (by the best person you can find)
  2. Decent haircut
  3. Regular exercise - gives a glow to the skin and a bounce in your step. I like swimming and pilates.

For me, I had to add 4) throwing money at a dermatologist for my problem skin.

Clean, ironed, mended clothes. Oh and 5) get your colours done. Made such a difference to me!

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 26/12/2019 19:36

@happytobemrsg They are fab on you. Although, you have beautiful eyes anyway, so that helps!
I have very sensitive eyes and have always wondered if they would irritate them, but I'll give them a try

OneKeyAtATime · 26/12/2019 20:44

Minimal or no make up
Clothes not too tight
No animal prints:)

happytobemrsg · 26/12/2019 21:23

Ah thanks @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet. The fumes from the glue is a bit much at first but it goes after about 30 seconds. I think they do a patch test on you first.

XingMing · 26/12/2019 21:48

Become interested in how you show yourself to the world. I walk my dog and live in the extreme country, so I choose my walking gear carefully, wear jeans and jumpers on rotation, but from a neutral colour range, and try to remember lip stick. There's a lip balm in every single outdoor coat I own, as well as dog poo bags. And I buy fancy trainers from an Italian company that fits me well a year out of date and trash them cheerfully.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 26/12/2019 22:04

@XingMing Dog poo bags? You're taking it to a whole other level Xmas Shock

@OneKeyAtATime As discussed on the OOTD thread, animal prints are a neutral, and a therefore in keeping with looking 'polished' Xmas Grin

Eesha · 26/12/2019 22:53

@shitwithsugaron I'd go to a make up counter and try a few and gets bits of info there. Bobbi Brown taught me I should be wearing eye serum, and Blistex, Charlotte Tilbury was good for eyeshadow advice.
