Best primer for almost 40 yr old

That doesn't cost the earth.
Dd has been given a benefit gift set for Christmas and I've tried the primer and it's wonderful. It's also £28 for a 22ml bottle which is beyond my budget.
Can anyone recommend something similar that's not as expensive?

The Ordinary Sillicone primer is around £7 and great if you like sillicone (is it Benefit Porefessional? Think that one has sillicone).

Try ELF. Very reasonably priced. The goddess of skin and beauty Sali Hughes says they are on a par with Smash Box (once the make-up artists must have).

They have different ones. The one I use is brilliant.

Lanacane anti chaff gel. Google it.

Bluerussian · 25/12/2019 12:30

I don't even know what a primer is! Think it's something to do with decorating, I suppose forty year olds like different decor to teenagers.

Nivea sensitive post shave Balm for men. It costs about £2 and makes my make up stay amazingly.

Bluerussian · 25/12/2019 12:40

I googled Lanacane anti chaff gel and see it is to help if face (maybe other body parts), are subject to rough contact which causes dryness and maybe a rash. I can't imagine many people would need more than a moisturiser but I've never had that problem.

(Not being smug in any way at all, it's just how I'm built, not because I do anything special.)

Nyx pore blurring thing is similar to benefit one and about £10

LilyJade · 25/12/2019 14:38

I use Boots No7 £16.50

Best poreminimizing one is Maybeline Baby skin. I've uses Smashbox and Hourglass too and the Maybeline one is my favourite.

Primer is what you use before your foundation to make your makeup go on smoother and last longer. Some people use it on their own as a way to 'blur' out their pores as well.

gracielooloo · 25/12/2019 20:57

Can anyone recommend one for the same age group (40+) but without the silicone?😀
Is silicone not an ingredient to avoid if your prone to spots?

Sarcelle · 25/12/2019 20:57

Elf Glow Up Primer is very good - about a tenner. I have a very expensive Becca one but prefer the Elf one.

MerryPuddings · 25/12/2019 21:06

@gracielooloo Silicone-free primers won't 'blur' your pores if that's what you're looking for. However, if you're going down that route, I've found that the Hangover Replenishing primer by Too Faced is actually pretty good.

gracielooloo · 25/12/2019 21:15

Thankyou, merrypuddings. I will have a look at that one.

Bluerussian · 25/12/2019 23:11

Thanks MerryPuddings, I understand what it is now. I don't ever wear foundation so wouldn't buy it for myself.

LunaTheCat · 25/12/2019 23:40

Boots no. 7 is the only one I have tried and it is brilliant!

TheMarbleFaun · 25/12/2019 23:45

Another vote for the ELF primer.
The white one is exactly like the smashbox one

Body shop Instablur feels amazing
