Oooh Grinchly. You have spoken my thoughts.

vivacian · 25/12/2019 20:15

That's a cruel thing to post about a child.

I don't think it's fair to expose the children to those crowds, being hugged by strangers and them having to be impeccably behaved. How do you explain stuff to children of that age?

alldressedupinblue · 25/12/2019 20:18

I posted up thread about Princess Martha Louise. Today, her former husband had taken his life. He leaves 3 pre teen daughters.

SenecaFalls · 25/12/2019 20:24

Archie is lovely and completely adorable. He has the look of both of his parents, especially Meghan.

Ocomeocomeimaginaryfleas · 25/12/2019 20:28

Come on Grinchly, be kind. He's a sweet little chap.

Spudlet · 25/12/2019 20:29

That’s a bloody horrible thing to say about a little child.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 25/12/2019 20:29

Critique the clothes, not the children ffs!

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/12/2019 20:33

Oh come now, let's not be mean about babies. And I agree that it's one thing for the Cambridge kids to walk to church but another to expect them to hug random members of the public.

That's horrific about M-L's ex. I think he was a fairly well known author in Norway.

beanaseireann · 25/12/2019 20:37

That's so sad for the Norwegian Royal Family and his other family and friends.
He was to stay with the Royals this year for Christmas

AngelaScandal · 25/12/2019 20:48

How unbearably sad for his family @alldressedupinblue

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 25/12/2019 20:52

Saw a video earlier where Kate tried to encourage Charlotte forward but Charlotte shook her head and they just moved on. It was very subtle, and Kate seemed very aware of her daughter's body language. I thought it was well done, there was no pressure on Charlotte to move forward and greet the people because Kate did that. I can't find the video now, annoyingly Crown Hmm

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 25/12/2019 20:58

It's at about 3:20 on this bit of film

Grinchly · 25/12/2019 21:02

Apologies for causing offence.

FWIW in my opinion - and I accept this is probably a minority view- the vast majority of human babies are pretty un prepossessing ( angry potato is a perfect description) to all except their mothers and those going through a broody stage ! It's been noted on here before that Harry was a bit of a strange looking baby, but grew into his features.

I think Archie Harrison looks like his maternal grand father, just as George takes after his.

StartupRepair · 25/12/2019 21:06

Oh that's so terrible about Ari Behn.

GoFiguire · 25/12/2019 21:27

George Harrison? I didn’t know the RF had a Beatle?

paradyning · 25/12/2019 21:51

It's terrible that they have to put their young children through that ordeal. Why do they agree to it?

paradyning · 25/12/2019 21:52

Poor Ari. And his daughters. Very sad.

itswinetime · 25/12/2019 22:24

It must be a very hard decision to make, the walk about is a royal skill that the children will need to learn it at some point but it must be a overwhelming thing the thought of having to do it an my age is scary enough but as children it does seem too much. However William has actually been through it and allowed it to happen so maybe it is something that is better learned early? He has always seemed to protect his kids from some of the things he went through in childhood remember that awful video of a photo shoot when William was a toddler several threads back, things like that have thankfully been stoped. So maybe it's easier to learn early how to do it when you young as opposed to as a preteen/older child 🤷🏻‍♀️

William and Kate did seem attentive to the kids And like a pp I saw a few moments were Kate let Charlotte lead what she was happy with but still I'm not sure it's something I could/would want to do with my children.

itswinetime · 25/12/2019 22:26

That's sad news about Ari. My thoughts are with his daughters especially.

PinkSun9 · 25/12/2019 22:30

George is beginning to look like the Duke of Windsor.

Loved it when Charlotte refused to hand over the flowers to the aide!!

I wish Sophie would guide her daughter towards a more suitable wardrobe. That coat and footwear are more suited to an Oap. Even if Louise preferred the style of the coat, the colour could have been a bit brighter, livelier.

Catrescue1971 · 25/12/2019 22:44

I'm guessing that George and Charlotte have accompanied their parents this year because they are old enough to attend the church service happily and they have got to begin to practise their public role at some point (though I'm sure this is not the first occasion). I suppose at least this event is fairly secure and controlled, the routine is well rehearsed and predictable. The children's presence diverted attention away from a certain subject matter too. William and Catherine did it all very sensitively and carefully and the public at the front of the crowd were lovely to the children too. But yes, one is left with an uncomfortable feeling about it all. What a minefield William and Catherine must feel they are navigating bringing their children more and more into the public eye.

AspergersMum · 25/12/2019 22:49

Question, do you think they get told what colours to wear beforehand? It just seems so strange that most of them wore such, umm, NEUTRAL beige today. Did those adults wearing purple go off-piste??

Totally inappropriate for a member of the public to make Princess Charlotte go in for a hug. Who does that to complete strangers and especially to a child? She's a tiny child, she did the polite thing but so many boundaries were crossed there. I hope she isn't made to get so close next time, or isn't made to interact until she's much older.

thisenglishlife · 25/12/2019 22:56

This looks quite overwhelming to me

Royal style: Deck the halls with crowns and corgis!
Catrescue1971 · 25/12/2019 23:03

I wondered about the colours too ... but I think it is likely that with the recent events the royals probably knew instinctively to not put on a huge spectacle. The three purple and red outfits were the brightest colours as far as I could see but even they were fairly sedate styles.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/12/2019 23:26

I really can't imagine being so invested in total strangers that I'd give up my Christmas morning to go and take photos of them. It's bizarre!
