Please help me style up my plain black coat!

I have this super comfy, nice coat. I love it. But it's black and rather plain and I can't seem to find a good scarf to wear with it. My hair is quite dark after a recent home dye disaster so I'd love something that is a bit in contrast but still stylish.

Every scarf I own is either too dark or doesn't match at all...I just want to look more polished! Blush

It's my resolution for the new year to look more put together, please help me find the perfect scarf. I'm clueless Grin

Scarves, according to my ultra hip teenage nieces, are over. You need a chunky 4-ply knitted snood, ideally one you have knitted yourself, in a colour that flatters you.

I haven’t seen my waist in years, but if yours is as defined as the model’s, an elasticated belt with a blingy designer logo buckle and some enormous cat’s eye sunglasses would make you feel right at home in any smart winter resort or city square.

(Not really to do with any of the above, but in the bleak NE where I was born and grew up in the 1980s, sunglasses in winter would earn you a punch in the face for thinking too much of yourself. I left at the first opportunity).

I wouldn't dare to wear sunglasses in winter! My local village folk would never let me get away with this Grin

A good leopard print would be fab (cashmere, if you can stretch to it). Dark red gloves. Black hat with furry pompom in a brown that ties in with the colours in the scarf.

Reike · 21/12/2019 14:33

Oooh I'm already on the hunt for a leopard print scarf and have dark red gloves in my repertoire. Good idea. Can imagine wearing that. Adding matching hat to my list!

Depending on what your budget is I’d have a look at all Saints. There’s a lovely one which I’ve had my eye on for ages.

Reike · 21/12/2019 14:45

Ah just had a look at their website but yeah, it's a bit out of my budget. Which one did you have your eye on? I couldn't find an leopard print one. Just a zebra one. Though they're all quite lovely Smile

Yeah I just looked as well, they don’t seem to have the one I wanted anymore. It was leopard print on one side and oversized houndstooth on the other. I like both of the zebra ones, the red one is vastly reduced but may still be over your budget? If you like either of those it might be worth having another look in Jan as they usually reduce further.

Or you could change tack slightly and buy a leopard print bag and a black/red scarf.

I’ll have a think as to where else might have something nice, but for now I’d recommend Reiss, Jigsaw, Jaeger, Whistles, Toast. Again, these are on the expensive side but they do good sales.

Or any of the high street stores, really - leopard/animal print is easy to find. It’s more about making it as good quality as you can afford as that will help you to look more polished/put together.

Ninkanink · 21/12/2019 15:00

You could do a camel scarf, instead. Or any number of colours. The most important thing is that everything ties in together well but doesn’t look too deliberately ‘matched’.

Reike · 21/12/2019 15:09

Thanks for your help! I'm gonna focus on brown/leopard print, found a few on Asos and Zalando. Black unfortunately is a bit too erm...dark Grin Wore a black scarf yesterday and looked like death. Really pale. My hair is probably too dark atm Blush

I would say my budget is probably about 50 £.

I like this one!

Not patterned, and it’s wool so you need to be able to wear it without feeling itchy, but you could get a nice bag in the jan sales to add more pop!

Duh, forgot link Xmas Grin

Where is your gorgeous coat from if you don’t mind me asking?? Thanks;)

Reike · 21/12/2019 15:31

That is PERFECT! Though I'm gonna look look for a similar one as delivery to Germany is a bit expensive (prob should have mentioned I'm in Germany Xmas Grin) On the other side I REALLLY love it...

Just had a look through my wardrobe and found one or two scarfs that are close to that colour. Well, at least a little. Will have a try on later to see if they look good

Tinyandpetite It's from the Lidl online shop. Really comfy, slim fitting and light. And only 20 £. I'm in Germany though so not sure if it's available in other countries. Will have a look for you Xmas Smile

Tinyandpetite Ah I see Lidl UK doesn't have an online shop yet Sad
