What are your thoughts on faux fur coats? I have seen one that I really like in Hush, though its quite expensive> Do you think they may date?

They will never date!

StellaRockafella · 19/12/2019 12:38

So long as it's a timeless colour, print and shape, no, it will never date.

What I would be cautious about is the type of faux fur, as some wears terribly.

I almost bought the most beautiful faux fur coat in Anthropologie 2 years ago. I tried it on a few times and procrastinated until it had completely sold out. I really regret not buying it and think about it often!

Go for it

Greenglassteacup · 19/12/2019 12:48

On seeing the coat you like OP, I think that is too bulky and teddy bear to be timeless

NameChangedNoImagination · 19/12/2019 12:49

I ADORE a fur coat, but the one you've picked is very on trend and will date imo.

Greenglassteacup · 19/12/2019 12:52

Here’s the one that got away, still sad about it!!

Lovely colour but it's too boxy, a difficult length and I don't think the quality of the fur is particularly good - enlarge the pictures and you'll see. Actually, you can see the quality of the pile isn't great even without enlarging the pictures.

As a comparison, this one for £99 is a much nicer faux fur and shape. Was particularly surprised when I saw it in store as it looks way more expensive than it is.

Birdy65 · 19/12/2019 13:18

That was my thought too. I tried it on last week, felt very glamorous, loved the funnel neck, though felt quite large in it as it was quite boxy. I think I may leave it as it is expensive for something that may be dated next year.

It's nice but it doesn't look worth £175!!! I have seen better styles for under £100 some really good ones for around £50. But it depends on what you are looking for. I only buy black but I do like the grey colour.

StellaRockafella · 19/12/2019 13:20

@Greenglassteacup That's lovely, love a faux astrakhan! (I have a faux astrakhan in black!)

OP, if you live in London or near a big town, so into the shops and feel faux fur as that way you'll know what's good quality and worth spending money on and what isn't. As a benchmark, Shrimps make the best faux fur by miles, but it's expensive although they have good sales.

Birdy65 · 19/12/2019 13:21

I love that StellaRockafella. How is the sizing? I find Zara inconsistent with their sizing and never know which one to order.

StellaRockafella · 19/12/2019 13:33

I'm usually an XS or S in Zara coats, the latter as I prefer them to be oversized. For this style, I much preferred the M.

Greenglassteacup · 19/12/2019 13:34

Pity it’s double breasted

chartreuse · 19/12/2019 21:40

Mango have a beautiful faux fur single breasted coat at the moment, very good quality fabric and well cut

Ladybirdbookworm · 21/12/2019 23:50

Honestly New Look have a very similar Teddy coat in the same grey colour. It's £49.
I bought it and then returned it because it was a bit boxy. The colour was gorgeous though. Maybe have a look online and see what you think .
