Anyone having problems with Nice n Easy box dyes over the last few weeks?

I’ve been using this stuff for as long as I can remember and it has always worked ok. My hair is naturally grey/mousey and i dye it blonde. I’ve tried other makes such as garnier and L’Oréal but these tend to look lovely at first but wash out over a few weeks whereas the Nice n Easy one is the only one I have found that seems to stick to my hair permanently.
About a month ago I dyed my roots in the usual way but they turned a whiteish colour. It looked as though the mixture had stripped my natural colour away but the blonde dye hadn’t absorbed into my hair. My initial thought was that I hadn’t shook the mixture properly so I tried again, shaking thoroughly, but the same thing happened again. I tried a third time and didn’t shampoo my hair afterwards in case that was washing the colour away but the roots are still white.
I’ve tried contacting clairol to see if they have changed the formula over the past month or two but they haven’t responded.
Has anyone had this problem or any idea why it has happened? I’ve been using this stuff for well over 10 years with no issues. If not could you recommend an alternative box dye that permanently works on stubborn greys? Thank you

I used medium ash blonde a few weeks ago and it was fine

ACouchOfOnesOwn · 28/12/2019 11:30

I use L'Oreal Excellence blonde and they changed the formula and process recently. They swapped the pre-treatment for a shampoo to use after dyeing and it's horrible. It leaves my hair brittle and feeling horrible. But if you ignore their shampoo and conditioner and use good products instead (eg Philip Kingsley) then it's fine and the colour is still nice.

I used medium cool blonde last week and it was fine. I'd have freaked if I'd seen this thread beforehand though!

I've been using the nice n easy golden auburn for years (my natural colour is dark brown and this is the only light colour that will take).
Dye my hair roughly every month and so far not had any issues.
Have a box to use next weekend, hopefully it will work ok. The thought of trialling dyes to find a similar colour that will take as well doesn't fill me with joy!

This thread is very interesting as i have always used nioce and easy, nut i tried one of their new ones just for roots, and my hair started falling out,
I rang them and was just told to do a skin test in future
The one just for roots DOES have something different in it
I have never had hair fall out before
I am now having to have a scalp biopsy to find out why my hair isn't growing back as the roots are there
I will look at Trust pilot
Has anyone here had hair fallout?

princessTiasmum · 28/12/2019 14:20

I have just looked at Trust Pilot and i'm shocked at how many are having hair loss,i am going to buy a box of the dye which is just for roots and take it to my Dr to have this stuff tested if possible
My hair is so bald in patches that i am considering buying a wig
If the ingredient in it that is different to the usual nice and easy is proved to be dangerous or to blame i will sue
It would be a good idea for everyone suffering hair loss after using N&E to get together to complain

My friend used Nice & Easy for years with no problem. The last time she used it she took a reaction her whole face swelled up.

princessTiasmum · 28/12/2019 14:29

The normal nice and easy was fine, but they now do one just for roots, and it was after that my hair started falling out

princessTiasmum · 28/12/2019 16:59

There is a website called "Howl at the moon""Nice and Easy behind the label,," very interesting, tells all ingredients,[or chemicals] and what they can cause [,scary ]

princessTiasmum · 02/01/2020 12:08

Going to buy the roots hair colour today and find out what the new added ingredient is, and if necessary have it tested
Anyone else had problems with nice and easy?

ashmts · 03/01/2020 09:05

My hairdresser pointed out a bald patch about the size of a 50p last time I went. I never really thought anything of it because my hair is usually thick and healthy and the top layer covered it but that was about 6 weeks ago and there's still no growth at all. I used Nice n Easy a couple of weeks before that so now I'm wondering if it's all linked to that after seeing this thread! Quite worrying.

princessTiasmum · 03/01/2020 12:37

ashmts have a look on trust pilot, under Clairol, shocking

I find Superdrug own brand dye very good and reliable (but not the superfast ones, just the regular permanent ones).

Also not tested on animals which is good Halo

Trewser · 03/01/2020 14:06

Might try that, thanks mrspmt

astralweaks · 03/01/2020 14:27

Are the semi permanents ok?

CoolShoeshine · 03/01/2020 17:51

Thanks to the person who said upthread about the bargain shops selling the old formula Nice n Easy. I got some from Home Bargains (checking first that it had the small blue bottle of mixture inside, not the tube). It’s worked perfectly! Just need to stock up on some more now. I’m guessing they must make it specially for these stores as they seemed to have a full shelf full of boxes - it wasn't like they were just selling off a few old leftover ones.

I should have added that before I tried the bargain store Nice n Easy I tried Garnier Nutrisse but it wasn’t a particularly nice colour (too yellowy, not ashy) and it faded out after about a week.

Thanks for the warning. I'm so sorry some of you are suffering scalp problems and hope you recover fully. I manged to find a couple of boxes of old formula in my shade on ebay (worth a look) and will throw away the new formula I was going to use. If this doesn't get resolved, does anyone know of a good equivalent shade to 8WR Golden auburn in another brand?

inkybooboo · 09/03/2025 01:04

Has anyone noticed a change in CLAIROL nice and easy 2025 permanent hair dye, they must of changed the formula because my hair is a mess 😱 I have been using nice and easy for about 10 years, I have always used the colour medium ash brown, I bought another 2 boxes I followed the instructions like I normally do, I burst into tears when I rinsed my hair it turned Black with dark brown patches , also some parts of my roots have broken off giving me a stubble on top of my head the colour never lasts 6/8 weeks on the roots it needs done 2 weeks later what the hell is going on. I have tried all ways to remove it with natural ingredients.
Nothing has worked so I have had to search the internet for the best and safest permanent hair dye remover.
I will probably do it in a week's time so I can give my hair a chance to recover. I will post the out come if it works .

inkybooboo · 09/03/2025 11:59

Hi I am not sure about the semi permanent hairdyes from Clairol nice and easy IV always used the permanent one, I still can't wear my hair down as it is black instead of medium ash brown, I look so pale not good for my skin tone. I hope you find someone that has used the semi permanent.
Good luck. 🤞
