Tired of Cos/J Crew/Boden! Where do you shop?

I'm tired of Cos, same styles year in year out and so recognisable. J Crew and Boden are frumpy. Whistles' quality is dreadful. Maje stuff is very samey all the time. I've officially run out of places to shop? Are there any new good quality brands you'd recommend? I've looked at Sezanne but can't tell if it's good quality. Uniqlo is good for basics but not very exciting. Thanks!

Massimo Dutti instead of Zara these days.same company just the grown up version. Get the occasional bit from Zara but it all seems overdone these days. And some dodgy fabrics.

FashionFiend · 15/12/2019 16:39

I went through a phase of massimo dutti last year but find the quality isn't great this year. Unlined jackets/crumpled fabrics etc. Very tempted by sezanne now.

I find the French brands a bit hit-and-miss in terms of what suits me (I'm 5' 9"), but Sezanne is good in my experience. Me + Em quality is great but very expensive - they have good sales though. I would buy a lot there if funds allowed!

I'm fed up with Zara - too much tat and too recognisable. This hasn't been a Vintage season in Cos, have bought a coat and a jumper dress but have nowhere near the wish list I usually have going at this time of year.

Second the recommendation of Arket, there's always something interesting in there. I'm another one waiting for the Toast sale too not that I actually need any more clothes.

Uterqüe
Bimba y Lola
Free People
Odd Molly
Zadig & Voltaire
Scotch & Soda

Waiting for the 50% sale:
Alice + Olivia
Stine Goya
Valentino Red
The 2nd Skin
The Fold
Juan Vidal

I find Baukjen and Me+em too long and the t-shirt type fabric is heavy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/12/2019 19:02

A lot of the fabrics in Arket are horrible, though and their t-shirts are too high necked for me.

I got a lovely jumpsuit in the Free People sale.

RuggyPeg · 15/12/2019 19:07

Oliver Bonas.

HermioneWeasley · 15/12/2019 19:11

Banana Republic and Uniqlo

Imonlymoominafterall · 15/12/2019 19:13

Me &Em and Toast for excellent knitwear and shirts in the sale, Kemi Telford for beautiful stand out skirts and dresses, invest in a bit of Max Mara and Gerard Durel for leather jackets and coats.

Sarcelle · 15/12/2019 19:16

@RuggyPeg - what is OB's sizing like?

dancingbadger · 15/12/2019 19:31

Reiss
Mint Velvet
Pure Collection
Warehouse has some nice bits too, I find Oliver bonas comes out really big, just get a size smaller happy days!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/12/2019 19:34

Oliver B fabrics are awful too, unfortunately. I often see something in there and think it's gorgeous, until I touch it.

I've got a couple of nice cotton t-shirts from All Saints in sales.

MoltoAgitato · 15/12/2019 19:39

That Palones place has been spamming style and Beauty all week, just saying...

LilyJade · 15/12/2019 19:55

Not heard of most of those shops! Maybe they are out of my price range.

Personally i like:

Oasis
River Island
Dorothy Perkins
Florence & Fred (Tesco)
Primark
Zara

Also Next sometimes including their brands such as Lipsy

(I'm 43, size 12-14, work in a uniform. So only need to dress for days off & social life.)

Really? Are you sure it's not just posts from me? I haven't read any posts where they're mentioned other than my posts.

I discovered them in Sept and I totally love their clothes and often recommend them when (tall) people are asking for ideas. I have no affiliation with them whatsoever. But they've been a breath of fresh air for my wardrobe at a time when I really needed a refresh after a combination of weight loss and job/industry change and I was so happy/relieved to find a brand that worked so well for me. I don't think Mumsnet is really their target market given they make everything in limited numbers but I'm a Financial Services person rather than a marketer so what the hell would I know?! But check my posting history and you'll see I'm a normal person rather than a spammer.

Another one waiting for the TOAST sale. Didnt know it was Boxing Day though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/12/2019 20:24

My most admired dress this year was from Next, weirdly. I hadn't been in there for years but one opened nearby and I've actually found a couple of nice things in there. You have to ignore a lot of horrible stuff but that's true everywhere.

RuggyPeg · 15/12/2019 21:45

Agree, Oliver Bonas comes up quite big.

Forever unique. My friend gets a lot from there (a lot!!!) and it's always fabulous. God knows how she does it cos I look on the website and am shocked at how truly awful it all looks and yet when it arrives, it's invariably really lovely and great quality. It's a bit more dressy tho, in a Cheshire housewives kinda stylee......not surprising really, given who owns it.

Sainsbury's Tu on a good day is full of little gems. Asda, on the other hand is now truly dire. Tesco is sometimes worth a look too.

duckyolucky · 15/12/2019 23:34

Gestuz
Topshop Boutique
rixo

Musicforsnorks · 16/12/2019 09:19

I’m in a mountain type place now so find myself in fjallraven, Rab, tog24 and bits of fat face, DM’s and merino base layers.

I don’t know how it happened, but I suppose the elements got the upper hand.

One great thing is it forced me to minimalise .....and life is a lot simpler.
But that’s just me, the high street depressed me so it’s fair enough.

Sarcelle · 16/12/2019 10:42

I would trade the mountains for the High Street anyday!

FashionFiend · 16/12/2019 22:44

I agree re Gerard Darrell. Bought a few things in the outlet. The quality is excellent but it's expensive.
