Best serum for 50 yo.....

BaconAndAvocado · 11/12/2019 21:51

Turning 50 recently, I thought I would up my game re looking after myself and splurged on some Clarins moisturiser.

Any recommendations for a good face serum?

My skin is normal/combination with ever increasing sagginess Grin

The Ordinary Buffet with Copper peptides is the one serum that’s made a noticeable difference to my 54 year old skin. It looks brighter and firmer when I use it. It’s expensive for The Ordinary, about £28 but not compared to many others.

My favourite is Lancôme genefique but it's expensive.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/12/2019 08:09

Lidl, seriously.

Liveandforget · 12/12/2019 08:34

@mrspelligrino, could say which one or post a link to it? Thanks

Honeybee85 · 12/12/2019 08:38

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair.

Expensive but it’s fantastic stuff for any age.

I bought the Lidl one after reading about it on S&B. 50 ml for just £2.99!
Slap Astral or Nivea on top. Brilliant.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/12/2019 15:26

Or even the Lidl Classic cream on top, bloody brilliant!

JinglingHellsBells · 12/12/2019 16:23

I really don't think any of these products do much good.

Skin quality is all about diet, sleep, not too much sugar and booze, and high spf 30+ every single day.

Sugar actually causes a break down of collagen through skin inflammation.

Far better to focus on diet than pseudo science.

Housewife2010 · 12/12/2019 16:47

My diet is pretty unhealthy, I look after my skin very well and I'm often told how "perfect" it is.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/12/2019 16:51

Even when I have eaten cleanly my skin hasn't changed so I don't buy that it all comes from inside. In fact, my skin seems to be affected my environment, when I spent a long period of time in hospital my skin was gorgeousGrin

LilyJade · 12/12/2019 17:13

I'm 43, I use Clinique Smart Repair serum under my moisturiser.

It was £63 on offer in Boots for Black Friday usually approx £72 for 50ml.
It's really good, I've used it before, but you have to wear a moisturiser containing sunscreen over it, probably as I expect it has some retinol or similar in the serum.

My skin seems less dry, & glows more.

elliemcx · 12/12/2019 17:28

Elizabeth Arden Prevage intense serum.

Housewife2010 · 12/12/2019 17:28

OP as you like your Clarins moisturiser, why don't you look into the Clarins Double Serum which gets lots of good reviews? Now is a good thing me to buy as there are lots of offers on.

BringMeTea · 12/12/2019 17:55

I have found Sarah Chapman very good. Bit pricey but I can see improvements which is rare. Look out for it on sites like Look Fantastic that often have 20% off.

ChoccyJules · 12/12/2019 17:58

I don’t get serum, does it just go on certain parts of the face underneath the usual moisturiser?

LilyJade · 12/12/2019 18:34

You can put it all over your face or just on certain areas. It should go underneath moisturiser.

TaleOfTheContinents · 12/12/2019 22:51

Agree with @Honeybee85 about the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. Amazing stuff!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/12/2019 23:09

Advanced Night Repair is lovely - and you can sometimes get it in a Christmas set where you get a full sized bottle and a load of other stuff, for not much m ore than the single product.
