A question about Philips Lumea on chin hairs

I've just invested in a Lumea Prestige and have done my first treatment on my armpits but am about to brave my chin and moustache.

The thing is, on my chin the dark prickly hairs I want to get rid of are in amongst lots of fine downy light coloured hairs, the sort that you naturally have but which tend to be more noticeable as you reach menopause.

Do I have to remove all those light hairs too before I can zap the dark ones? I'm just wary about doing anything too drastic as I fear that removing the downy hairs will make them grow back more noticeably.

It's similar with my 'tache really. I usually trim it as close to the skin as I can. Would this be ok prior to zapping or do I need to shave? (I really am quite scared of doing that)

Anyone got any experience?

I use mine on my chin and just shave with a mini bikini razor but I think you'd be fine just snipping them off with scissors and then doing it. Be warned though that the chin area is where my lumea is least effective and top lip 2nd least! Underarms, bikini line and legs I haven't shaved/done a top up since the summer and swim every week but it's only made a small difference to my chin pubes!

Shave first, then zap them all off in one fell swoop, and enjoy your lovely smooth chin Grin

God I love my Lumea. Maybe more than my children.

I pluck out the dark chin hairs then zap that works fine. I wax my top lip though because the hair there is more noticeable overall then zap.

Boot camp and ongoing maintenance has pretty much cleared my top lip, chin and underarms and what does grow back is really fine.

What happens to the fair downy hairs if you don't remove them first? Would they get frazzled and result in burning hair smell like if you miss shaving a dark hair ( had that experience on my bikini line!!)

I've been considering one of these, I have pcos and a full bloody beard growing! I'm only 30! Is it sore?

DropZoneOne · 11/12/2019 21:54

It doesn't seem to affect the downy hairs, i think they're too fair. Certainly they don't get fried like missing a dark hair!

IfWishesWereFishes · 11/12/2019 23:04

Yeah a little bit. It works best if you shave first, that's in the instructions.

Another question, I know these only work on dark hair but would darkish gingery red be dark enough? Does anyone know? I'm toying with getting one but I'm not dark.

I used mine a lot over the summer and thought it had made a difference, but everything seems to have grown back as normal a few months later Crown Sad

AudacityOfHope · 12/12/2019 07:25

Are you still using it regularly Cheezy? After the first while I only need to use mine maybe once a month, if that.

cheezy · 15/12/2019 11:47

I confess I am not using it regularly. In fact I completely stopped at the end of the summer. Okay I will get it out again
