Pretty vague - can you be more specific on the style and types of items? Is it a store with other labels or own label items? It is only available in the US?

@Mominatrix I just want recommendations of any good online fashion clothes store from the US, perhaps similar style to shops like french connection but only available in the US. Thanks.

Are you in America? Many won’t ship internationally and if they do you have to pay customs.

Your colleague was possibly shopping form J Crew. They have stores here now and are available at Net a Porter but they had a big european push a few years ago, they ship through Borderfree to avoid customs and used to offer free returns too.

Shopbop sell Madewell and other US designers ranging from mid price to designer. You do have to pay customs which is calculated at checkout.

Thanks for your comments. No, i'm not in the states, just in good old blighty here Grin. The customs charges are certainly a consideration. I figured if the price was good enough it might off set the charges added on top, it all depends.

The exchange rate is not your friend at the moment.

baileysandamincepie · 05/12/2019 20:34

The exchange rate is crap, international postage will be at least £10 and customs duty isn't pence it's a significant % There are lots of calculators online, but postage and taxes looks to add around 20% to the base cost of an item over £100. I don't think there would be any US exclusive brand worth paying for that you couldn't find an equivalent in the UK or Europe. How about channeling Parisian style instead, it would be cheaper!

XingMing · 05/12/2019 20:42

Almost everything bought from outside the EU will bring a customs, duty and handling charge demand if it costs more than £40. I am waiting on some gloves from NZ. There are very few bargains with sterling ATM.

Shimy · 05/12/2019 20:43

The exchange rate is another factor. I hadn't appreciated how weak it is at the moment, infact after thinking about it more I'm not so keen on the idea any more. I can leave it until when i get a chance to travel to the US. The colleague I mentioned was not recent, it was actually yrs ago, so things were a lot better then. I'd be interested in channeling Parisian style Wink, any recommendations?

It's getting better though. Try again on December 13th.
