Help me get these boots on!

So brought lovely dr marten chelsea boots for dd. We have the same size foot so I tried them on to see if they will fit. I can't get the elastic bit to stretch enough to go over my ankle! They are so stiff and rigid! The actual shoe looks like it will fit fine but getting them on seems impossible. Does anyone have and wisdom, experience, knowledge, ideas??

Stuff them with newspapers and as they stretch add more.

Hair dryer on the elastic to soften it and then put them on and off to stretch the elastic out while it’s softened

When I had some tight leather boots before I was advised to put plastic bags over my feet to help them slid on and wear them about the house a few times to stretch them out - may work for you?!
