Help, my straighteners have packed in!

My GHDs gave up the ghost this morning - the light's coming on, so they're not fused, but they aren't heating. They've done almost ten years, so I shouldn't moan, but V annoying timing just after a week of heavy discounting!

What should I replace them with? I need to get something today, so can't order online. I have access to various hair salons which will definitely sell GHDs, a John Lewis, a Boots, a Debenhams and an Argos. While spending £100+ sticks in my craw, I would prefer to do that than end up buying two £50 pairs that are crap. Are GHDs still the best?

I prefer cloud nines to GHDs these days. I have a pair of both and I never use the GHDs now. I have the cloud nine touch and it's great - hair deffo stays straighter for longer.

Personally I'd rather spend the money on some I know are great, rather than risk spending half the money on some substandard ones and then buying the more expensive ones anyway!

It will also depend on your hair - mine is thick and curly so needs a proper job done on it.

I have a steampod and I love it! I have very curly hair and with most straighteners I have to straighten in tiny sections to get the desired effect. With these the plates are quite wide and I can straighten bigger sections at a time. My hair is done in half the time!
I've had it a year now and have noticed much less damage to my hair so I do think there might be something in the claims that the steam is somehow less damaging to your hair than traditional straighteners. I don't think I'll go back to normal straighteners now!

Honestly I love my dyson airwrap. Makes hair more bouncy and curls too!

My hairdresser was raving about Cloud 9s yesterday, apparently they are better than GHDs. They did do a lovely job on my hair but hard to tell from one go if that’s true!!

My ghds just died too, replaced with cloud 9s and thrilled!

I replaced my GHDs with cloud 9s and love them. Although my hairdresser still stands by the basic GHD model.

Cloud 9s all the way. Just replaces my old GHDs with them and very happy.

The GHD Glide is fab though if you don’t want poker straight hair, and so quick!
