John Lewis advent calendar daily thread πŸŽ„

So we’re already 4 days in and we must have a JL advent calendar thread πŸ€—

I had a Look Fantastic one last year and M&S the year before both were good but I found the make-up and nail colours in the M&S one weren’t v universal. Even though this year’s JL is pricier, I really hope it’ll be worth it for the make-up alone.

Day 1: Neom candle, smells lovely - possibly to good to actually burn!

Day 2: Sisley night cream and eye cream - I’m really liking these, used for two nights now. My skin is looking great. Although they are so tiny and won’t last long at all.

Day 3: Soap, always useful.

4th Dec: Pillow spray - Love this, think I’ve had it in all my other ones too. I use it on by baby’s grow bag when she has a cold. Wonder if there’s a cheaper version available?

What does everyone else think so far?

Have you saw the price of the sisley eye cream?! Told my husband I liked it so he looked it up then told me that the cream gave me wrinkles Grin

Sparklyring · 04/12/2019 21:18

Already a big fan of Neom and the sleep spray so both will get used up and I like the ethics behind the soap, nice and moisturing too.

Coatzillaclaus · 04/12/2019 21:34

Wooah! I think i’m getting more wrinkles now too. It is rather nice cream though 😒

Ooh can i join in? The sisley creams are lovely and I have already used the candle and it's fab.
Not so impressed with today's floral spray - bit too flowery for me.

Sparklyring · 05/12/2019 08:47

It's very strong... I did one spray in my kitchen and can smell it in the lounge! I think I like it but worried the heaviness will irritate my husbands asthma :-/

Coatzillaclaus · 05/12/2019 09:30

And now we are three! Hi Icemaidenismelting πŸ€—

I’m not that keen on the perfume either, it reminds me of CK One which is not a good thing. It dries down ok I suppose and is quite a refreshing scent.

I think I like it now its settled. Had a look on the website and tempted to buy the tester pack... I'm an advertisers dream! Haha

helips · 05/12/2019 16:09

I’m pleased with everything so far, I love neom candles and have used the sleep spray before (my daughter stole my last one so this replaces it!). I quite like the perfume today, especially once it settles down. My only issue is the size of the Sisley products, to me they are the sort of thing you’d get at the counter as a tester, not in an advent calendar!

TheWeatherGirl1 · 05/12/2019 16:40

I'm in.

I'm loving everything so far, couldn't be more thrilled by the whole experience.
I really like the perfume except my skin sucked the smell back in after 3.7 mins and I can't smell it anymore.
Otherwise it's all grand and I shall be using the eye cream verrrrrrry sparingly after reading the above comments

Coatzillaclaus · 06/12/2019 12:45

Afternoon all πŸ‘‹

Actually the perfume is really growing on me, my skin still had a very subtle scent this morning. Just been to aerobics and did a few squirts before, usually I wouldn’t wear perfume when I’m exercising due to getting out of breath and breathing deeply etc but this was fine and I feel fairly fresh despite getting v sweaty.

Me too Sparkly - I might have a look at that tester pack. Hope the price is a bit more reasonable than the Sisley!

I’ve not used the blusher/bronzer properly yet. Though I had a quick swish with it this morning and it’s ok on my skin but I imagine would be a bit on the dark side for quite a few people? It also seems a bit small, was hoping for full-size.

OP posts:
Sparklyring · 06/12/2019 15:10

I'm.very pale so opened the bronzer and was a bit Confused

helips · 06/12/2019 16:39

I’m pale too so not sure if the bronzer is going to work for me...might be better in the summer when I’ve got a bit of a tan though.

Coatzillaclaus · 06/12/2019 16:55

I’ve tried the bronzer now with proper make-up and I quite like it. Just a tad darker and more matt than my usual Benefit Hoola but does seem to make my skin look a slightly ruddy. If I had to choose between the two, I’d stick with the Hoola.

Can totally see how others might be a bit disappointed with the colour but you never know it might look ok once on?

That Floral Street Discovery Gift Set is really tempting me, although it could be v dangerous because then I’d NEED a full-size one πŸ™„.

Wonder if we get a discount on any of the full-size versions of the bits in the calendar. Might get someone to have a peek in the last box later to see if there’s a discount code.

Do you use the Elasticizer on wet or dry hair?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/12/2019 10:48

Sparkly
On damp hair , section it and apply evenly .
Leave in 20+ minutes or overnight if you wish.
Rinse out .
The effect is cummulative so the first couple of times you think "this is 'meh' " but it improves.

Smile
Sparklyring · 08/12/2019 11:25

@10:4870isaLimitNotaTarget Thank you! Good to know about it being a cumulative effect too!

Coatzillaclaus · 09/12/2019 12:17

I still have some unopened elasticiser from another calendar. Its difficult to find the time for all that so I usually just wash and go (also use a fab hair oil which really seems to calm down the frizzies). I like that you can put it in before you shower though....does anyone know if it’s ok to leave it for more than 10 mins?

As for the Benefit Brow stuff, I’ve tried this before and found it just left dried flaky stuff on my eyebrows. And again, life is a bit short to be faffing around arranging my eyebrows...wonder if I can use it as clear mascara instead πŸ€”

OP posts:
helips · 09/12/2019 14:07

I’ve got no use for the eyebrow stuff so going to give it to my teenage niece, I’m sure she’ll appreciate it more as she spends a lot of time on her eyebrows!

Love the daily scrub today...I’ve used it in the past (a previous calendar!) and it makes my face feel really clean and soft.

Coatzillaclaus · 09/12/2019 20:57

Yep the DailyMicrofoliant is a nice one although I find it tends to stick at the ends of my nostrils so need to check it’s all washed off.

I went into JL today and sniffed all the Floral Street perfumes. Was thinking of buying the tester pack but tbh I wasn’t too keen on most of them, think I prefer the Rhubarb! Might go back soon for another test of the Chypre and maybe the Iris.

OP posts:
Sparklyring · 10/12/2019 18:34

Anyone tried AHA before? Do you use it daily?

Coatzillaclaus · 11/12/2019 09:25

Is AHA the same as hyaluronic acid?? If so yes I’ve tried the Aldi healthy glow rose toner but don’t think I used it for long enough to see any difference.

Does anyone have any idea how/when we use today’s?

OP posts:
Coatzillaclaus · 11/12/2019 11:15

Oh and I tried the elasticiser yesterday, my hair is long and wavy/frizzy. It looks quite shiny and really brought out the curl without weighing it down - can’t believe I didn’t try it sooner as I had some already. It’s a πŸ‘ from me.

OP posts:
Sparklyring · 15/12/2019 14:09

What's been everyone's favour gift so far? I used today's facemask and thought it was lovely but I really love the Bobbi Brown eye shadow, wearable colour and last wells.

Coatzillaclaus · 15/12/2019 20:57

For me it’d be either the FloralSt fragrance or the Nars bronzer. I was really looking forward the the bobbi brown eyeshadow, already got one which I love in stone but the golden pink doesn’t really suit me. I’m liking the colour of the LM lipstick, red but not too red. Shame they’re not full-sized though!
