Can I ask for help with finding a dress for a Christmas party?!

I’ve just agreed to go to a fancy Christmas party with a friend - it’s the kind of thing I imagine usually big companies would do as work Christmas events rather than someone a few people would book onto but the friend knows someone running it so we got tickets cheap and thought it’d be fun.

My friend is very petite and beautiful, she’s wearing a full length fitted dress with a slit up the side. I had a baby at the beginning of the year and am definitely a lot heavier than I’m happy with, and have absolutely no idea what to wear 😩 I’ve not had to buy a ‘party’ dress in this size so I’ve no idea where to go - I’m a size 16 now and definitely have the mum tum!

I’m not bothered about going full length as almost everything I’ve seen is fitted and I just don’t think that’ll be flattering at all, but still need something that’ll fit in and be nice!

Any suggestions gratefully received!

I got this dress from new look for my work party

www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/dresses/dark-green-satin-pleated-midi-dress/p/633926338?comp=Search

I love most of the colours (seen the green, gold, black & burgundy in person and they were all lovely) and it's really comfy & flattering. I'm anywhere between a 10-14 depending on shop / fit and the 12 skimmed / didn't dig in at the waist - might have got away with a 10 if I'd had time to re order

I absolutely love the green colour of that one but not sure if I could pull off the pleats! There’s a fairly large new look in the main shopping centre near me though so might see if I can find it to try it on - thank you! :)
