Silk pillowcase

I'd like to treat mum to a silk pillowcase as part of her Christmas box

Can anyone recommend a really good one or are they all the same? Do I just look for 100% silk?

I've used one for years and I love it. I get mine from Amazon and am only concerned that it's 100% silk. I don't think the brand matters at all. I also prefer the ones with a zipper closure.

Thanks I didn't think of Amazon and there's lots to choose from on there.

I saw some today in John Lewis

I get mine from a seller on Ebay as their silk pillowcases are the best quality ones I've found and are very reasonably priced (even with the postage from the US). This is the seller:

I've tried various ones on Amazon, and even places like Soak & Sleep and the quality is ok but not as good (they use a lower silk momme so the silk is thinner and less robust).

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/12/2019 22:15

I always look for 19 momme or higher. A lot of sellers that sell 100% silk are selling 17 momme.

For bedding it's recommended to get between 19 and 25 momme. Some sellers don't mention the momme and these tend to be the lower quality ones (no surprise there!)

I'm interested in getting one for myself... can someone explain how often you wash them and how?! I have a history of ruining silk Blush

These are the best I've found: www.jasminesilk.com/ivory-housewife-silk-pillowcase/p46.

19 momme and only £23

woogal · 03/12/2019 22:38

I got a slip one. £85 and I wake up to the bloody thing on the floor

Gardai · 04/12/2019 00:06

I second Jasmine Silk. I get the one sided silk ones (cotton other side) so they don’t slip around so much.
I handwash them in the sink with woolite. They last longer imo.

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005F5M8TG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8 have had this one for a year now - it's even survived the tumble dryer - it is silk (feels real) on one side, cotton on the other.

Logjam · 04/12/2019 07:45

My one gets washed with the rest of my bedding, 30C normal washing powder - I try to save it from the tumble dryer but I haven't always been successful! It looks the same as it did a year ago when I bought it.

Greenteandchives · 04/12/2019 07:51

Mine is the Jasmine silk one. It gets washed with the other bedding and is fine. After two years of weekly wash the silk is wearing thin around the zip, but that’s to be expected.

Gardai · 04/12/2019 08:08

I've accidentally washed one silk pillowcase in a normal wash, it comes up perfectly ok but I can tell the difference with the ones that have been hand washed, the silk remains smoother, thicker and like new for ages. I am a fussy fecker though who is not great with washing machine programs.

Mosaic123 · 04/12/2019 09:01

You need to choose one with cotton on one side or it will slip about. I don't wake up with a creased face now I have mine.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/12/2019 09:55

Thanks everyone, I got a 22 Momme 100% Mulberry Silk one which I think she'll love.

john lewis. the cheaper ones have only 1/2 silk which is imo sad!
