No help to you at all but my best pair is a really old BodyShop pair (disgustingly old Blush )

I have since bought :
Mr Mascara (which were ok till they snapped)
New BodyShop pair ( had a spring , not as good as the old ones)
Pair that came in a Revitalash kit ( utter crap)
Shu Umueru ( supposed to be the Holy Grail of curlers but very meh on my eyes )

Curl 3 points - near the base (careful not to pinch the skin ouch )
The middle
The ends

Some people use a hairdryer to warm up the curlers ,
Your mascara can take out the curl if it's too liquid .

I've just been given the Primark mascaras ( gold tube and the one in the box) . I'll give them a try out .
(My eyelashes are rubbish and weirdly , my bottom lashes are long Confused )

Oh and some people curl after mascara but I think you need to use silicone blade curlers or they stick (and hoik them out) !

I have shiseido ones that I’ve had for years that work well for me. I always warm them up first with hairdryer, then apply mascara. I’ve heard Kevyn Aucoin curlers are meant to be good from space NK.

I use a heated lash curler. I bought it on eBay for about a fiver and it does the job for me. I put mascara on afterwards.
Mine is similar to this..
