&other stories Wool coats

I would like a long slightly oversized wool coat - something I feel a bit more polished in than my practical parka. I have a fake fur, but it doesn’t go with all outfits.

Ideally I would love a really expensive wool coat (say MaxMara or similar) but I can’t really justify it.

And other stories have a belted wool coat that seems quite nice but are they pretty poor quality or ok?

& Other Stories is brilliant at styling - but generally painfully disappointing in quality - everything thin and lacking in scale. But I don’t know exactly which coat you mean, would need to see it in the flesh.

Have you looked at Cos and Arket? Same brand-family but superior quality.

(I’ve never been rich enough to be able to afford cheap tailoring. I want a coat to last for a good slice of forever.)

Actually I got one there last winter and have been really pleasantly surprised by the quality- especially in view of the good price. I live in Yorkshire so don’t tolerate a thin coat, but the one I have is warm - especially if worn with the v cosy thick cashmere scarves they sell!

I got this one a couple of months ago and love it - really warm, comfortable and smart looking.

I have a lovely thick check wool coat from & Other Stories that I got 18 mints ago in the sale and it's lasted brilliantly. I get compliments every time I wear it too. Not all their coats are as good though - I tried on a nice-looking blue one recently that was very thin and synthetic in feel.
Agree COS & Arket are generally better quality for a comparable price.

18 months ago. Obviously

Interesting - some mixed reports. There is a store near my work so I sometimes pop in and I had the same thought as you SurpriseSparday - it all looks very appealing but slightly insubstantial. The coat I had in mind is this one:

SadSongs - that green coat looks lovely. Fab colour.

I have looked at Cos and Arket but a lot of their clothes are designed for tall people. I am short and skinny....

I don’t generally rate the quality of &Other Stories.

I suppose it depends what you’re used to/what you’re comparing it with.

I would probably spend a bit more for something better unless what you want is bang on trend and you’re only going to wear it for one winter.

I have some lovely dresses from there but don’t dare buy a coat as I’m short too and I had to take up every dress. I don’t sew well enough to mess with a coat - and it’ll have super-long sleeves! I’m not near enough to a shop to try things on, though - have to order everything.

Have a look on Asos. Their own brand ‘Asos design’ have different styles of coats. These usually are around £60-£80.

I bought this today.

Hmm, I think I will hold out for something that’s more likely to last several winters.

Ims0rry - that’s a nice coat but it’s only 23% wool - the rest is synthetic.
