Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a new smart (but warm) coat. Willing to spend up to a few hundred for a decent quality one that will last years.

Came across these two here and here on the Ted Baker website. Ideally I want black but the grey one looks lovely too so I might be tempted to buy both get the grey instead.

I've never bought from Ted Baker before, can anyone confirm that they're decent quality? And any advice on sizing would be much appreciated too!

If it turns out Ted Baker are crap, please do point me in the direction of recommendations for coats!

I've been wearing a green one I got off eBay. It's a wool cashmere mix and I love it!

goldface · 02/12/2019 15:43

The second pale grey is beautiful

MustardScreams · 02/12/2019 15:45

They’re good quality, I have a black wool mix I’ve had for years and it still looks new.

I’d buy now because it looks like they’re having financial troubles, so may not be around forever!

For quality, I personally prefer Hobbs, but that's just down to preference I think.

They've got some lovely wool coats atm though - this black one for example www.hobbs.com/product/milly-wool-blend-coat/0219-3026-3893L00-BLACK.html#gclid=Cj0KCQiAiZPvBRDZARIsAORkq7cFRezjiuvzigCDNPzMQ3wXJpQV5lmsnRt42jvzaekd77g43yp3iiUaAuNTEALw_wcB&cgid=clothing-coats-and-jackets&sz=60&start=0&pid=0219-3026-3893L00-BLACK&pos=3

The blue TB looks nice, but I wonder if the sleeves would do your head in after not very long? They would mine!

Thanks all!

I've also been checking eBay but always a bit scared about sizing when it's a brand I haven't worn before. Completely forgotten about Hobbs, will definitely check them out this afternoon.

Hadn't thought about the sleeves much on the second one, they look lovely but probably very impractical - knowing me they'll find themselves dunked in many coffee cups!

I have a nice coat from Hobbs. It's only a year old, but so far it is wearing very well and is still like new. Mine is cotton, so not as warm as I'd like. If I was buying again, I'd go wool.

The black one is very nice and classy looking and would look smart for years to come the grey one doesn't look as good quality and I'm not a fan of the cuff area on the coat

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/12/2019 16:55

The grey one is more than 50% polyester. Why is it so expensive with this amount of plastic in it would be my question tbh

anmila · 02/12/2019 20:01

Thanks for pointing that out, @TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince. For some reason I was certain I'd read it as ~70% wool (probably confusing the two coats) - must sleep more!

I've ordered the black coat along with a Hobbs one, hopefully I'll be able to actually make my mind up once they arrive.

Thanks again everyone for all the help, I will think of you all when I'm nice and warm this winter! Grin

I fell in love with a green scalloped TB last year but couldn't justify the £300 price tag but fortunetly it came down to £160 at Christmas. Its the same fabric as the first one and is absolutely lovely. The fabric and cut are very nice to wear
