Normally we don’t buy for each other, but she has sent me the most wonderful gift for Christmas this year!
She is quite wealthy and I’m not, but I’d like to give her something small but with a luxurious feel. I can spend up to £50.

Looking for ideas!
I was looking at the Guerlain lipsticks where you can get the refillable case. Maybe something like that?

Well I’m far from being a person with everything - but I am spectacularly picky.

Possibly your friend isn’t expecting you to reciprocate but, if you’re determined to spend your money ... I’m not sure buying any specific colour in cosmetics is a good idea, unless you already know the person has used that colour, in that brand, before. But luxurious make up is a lovely gift.

Otherwise, within your budget, books on my list or from the Folio Society would be very welcome.

Or a really good (as in more expensive than one buys for oneself) bottle of gin, whisky, port.

NightsOfCabiria · 29/11/2019 17:33

What are her interests?

Is she musical? Artsy? Into crafts? Does she like things like cashmere? Is she a reader? What about a years membership to a theatre/hall/event? Gig tickets for 2? Homebird? Traveller?

We need to know about her.

I'd look for something that is not a gift and not a luxury.
Make-up is too personal.

An experience that you could do together might be an option.

I'd be inclined to look for something small and offbeat and delightful like a small unusual trinket.

SurpriseSparDay · 29/11/2019 18:13

God, I hate trinkets! Grin

treepolitics · 29/11/2019 18:16

You have to give us a bit more of an idea of her character really. Would she appreciate a nice photo of the two of you in a frame? Or is she a nice bottle of gin person?

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2019 18:16

Me too. I hate gifts.

Batshittery · 29/11/2019 19:22

What was the gift she sent you OP? I don't claim to have everything but I usually buy what I want throughout the year. I have asked for Olverum bath or body oil. It's within your budget and luxurious.

viccat · 29/11/2019 19:27

Yes tell us more about her? Is she someone who buys luxury brands and classic colours; a lover of girly pink, or someone with an interest in eco friendly living? 25 or 65?

I'd say no to the lipstick, it's such a personal thing to choose the right colour and most make up wearers probably already own too many that aren't quite right...

A pair of cashmere gloves, Woolovers have some not too expensive , well within your budget, but always nice, soft & toasty for the coming winter.
A small antique like a small silver topped crystal scent bottle.

TightPants · 29/11/2019 20:05

Wow, thanks for the responses!
Some lovely ideas.
I agree she probably doesn’t want or expect me to reciprocate, but she bought me the Liberty beauty advent calendar so I was a bit gobsmacked and want to buy her something small but lovely.
She’s late 40s, auburn hair, pale skin., She doesn’t have time for many interest tbh, as she works long hours and has a lot of teenagers keeping her busy at home Grin
I suppose her style is quite modern classic really.
She buys luxury but is not flashy.

Mm ... you've still not told us anything about her interests, only her appearance, her family and the fact that she works (doing what?)

So, she obviously likes Liberty and shops there, so could you reciprocate and buy her something from there?
