Unflattering Topshop jeans in your 40s?

I'm never one to say you're too old for something but right now I'm having a "will I look ridiculous in" Topshop jeans moment.
I am tall and a 10/12 with a slim waist but muffin top on the hips and chubby legs. I happily fit into a size 10 next tall jean. Can't find any that really suit so thought I might be brave and buy a 12 in the Leigh and or Jamie jeans from Topshop.
Is this a bad idea? I do have one size 12 skirt from there that fits nicely but it's very short. Is Topshop designed for youngsters? (I remember shopping there 25 years ago....)

I'm 40 and Wear loads of TopShop stuff including the Joni and Jamie jeans. I'm also a 10-12 and find the jeans great as they are high wait and nice and stretchy.

I am 42, tall and thick waisted. I have a pair of Jamie jeans (black velvet) which are a couple of years old and are a really good fit. They do not look young or silly just like a nice fitting pair of jeans. I have always meant to try another pair but they have never had the right colour or style in stock the few times I have remembered to look.

I’m a big fan of the Orson fit. High waisted with slightly looser fit on the legs than the Jamie

HowlsMovingBungalow · 28/11/2019 15:21

I'm 43 and the only jeans I wear are Topshop Leigh and Jamie. They are just slim cut lightweight denim jeans. I'm a short arse at 5ft 4 and size 8/10 they fit me well.

BogStandardMe · 28/11/2019 15:23

Jeans are jeans, they are cut for all ages. Most people I know size up for topshop

Spoonsmum · 28/11/2019 15:33

I’m 37 and very tall. I keep trying to branch out but honestly, Topshop Leigh jeans are the only ones that fit properly.
I don’t like putting money into topshop after reading about Philip green but I guess that’s another topic entirely.
topshop jeans fit well and wear and wash well, so I don’t bother buying any different.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 28/11/2019 15:36

I regulary get nearly new Topshop jeans from ebay, once you know your size and leg - there are usually good pickings secondhand.

poorstudent1010 · 28/11/2019 15:39

I used to work for Topshop, both in a flagship London store and London head office.

Honestly, across most stores, denim was one of the best selling departments and was the most profitable department during certain times of the year. And size 12 was the most popular size. Denim wouldn’t have done so well if poor students were the only buyers! People of all ages buy Topshop jeans and pull them off. You won’t look ridiculous, jeans are a wardrobe staple.

The only thing I would say is that skinny jeans aren’t necessarily the most trendy option, I think mom jeans are a bit more versatile. Leigh isn’t high waisted, Jamie is. Jamie is higher quality than Joni but a lot of people find Joni more flattering around the bum area.

peaceanddove · 28/11/2019 16:18

I find the Topshop Baxter jeans very flattering and I'm over fifty!

Fairylea · 28/11/2019 16:19

I think if you’re anything up to a size 14 and any age then topshop jeans can look fab. I’m a size 16 though and now everything from there makes me look very tweedle dum from Alice in wonderland.

FashionFoodLaughs · 28/11/2019 16:25

I used to love the Baxter jeans and pick them up from eBay when I can

Reallynowdear · 28/11/2019 19:48

Love their straight leg crop jeans, I'm ancient.

Campervan69 · 28/11/2019 19:55

I'm 50 v soon. I love the TopShop Kristen jeans. Get mine off eBay as well. High waisted and skinny. Great fit.

Sunflower20 · 28/11/2019 20:34

Topshop jeans are flattering. I would go for something a bit more stiff, so not Joni or Leigh.

shitpark · 28/11/2019 21:04

I seem to be the only dissenting voice, but I think Topshop black jeans are poor quality, the colour fades and they stretch out of shape quite quickly. I prefer Paige hoxton, which can be bought just as cheaply on Ebay.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 29/11/2019 17:49

I'm 54 and wear Jamie jeans every day( different pair!) I'm 5'4 size 12/28 leg Love the fit and they wash and wear well
There's 25% off Black Friday discount today too!

dollyknocker · 29/11/2019 18:19

I'm 43 and pretty much only wear Jamie jeans. Wear what you like!

viccat · 29/11/2019 18:25

I also wore Baxter jeans from there in years gone by... I find M&S jeans are surprisingly good quality and have some very flattering cuts these days, though!

Anyway, if they fit you well, then the brand doesn't matter at all.

slipperyeel · 29/11/2019 18:58

I’m 44 and like @uncomfortablydumb53 I wear Jamie jeans all the time, size 14 (size 12 in other brands)

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 29/11/2019 19:00

Size 16 aged 46 and I only wear Top Shop Jamie jeans
